iPhone 8/Plus My dad iPhone 8 Plus battery issue

my dad iPhone 8 Plus hes been having an issue the phone turned off at 14% when he had enough battery .He also told me when he was using the phone it got very hot and decided to power off what shall I recommend him to do ?

Is this hardware or software issue ?

Restore through iTunes and set up as new. If that doesn’t help, bring it to an Apple store.
