Well I finally did it - bought my dad his first Mac (made sure to register it under his name and let them know he's a first time buyer). His old HP laptop gave out back in January and he's been using my Mac Pro when I'm at work.

He was initially against them, as he thought everything would be different, but for what he does (mostly eBay, email, web), there's pretty much no difference at all, and he won't have to worry so much about the viruses anymore either (he had 5 or 6 with the HP.)

I got the base Mini, and may upgrade the Ram from OWC sooner or later, but that little box is FAST with that i5 chip.

The only thing I still have to show him how to use is GarageSale, easily the best eBay auction creator I've ever used on ANY platform.

Keeping up the trend of "50% of Mac users are new to the platform" :)

My mom already wants to buy a MBP in the next 2 months or so...

Sounds like a great choice for your dad's usage! The mini should power through all of the tasks with ease.
