Hey all, it's been a while since I've logged on. I am really considering a new iMac. My problem is I am still on my old PowerBook g4 1.5ghz. Still dies everyday web surfing/ email like it did when I took it out of the box. But that's about all it does. I play Wow almost everyday and this thing cannot handle it anymore. I actually drop down to 1fps in dalaran and can't run anything more than a 5 man. I don't do anything crazy with my computer. I am starting to get back into garage band. My question is the current iMac 21" mid level with the 4670 good for all this? My dilemma is I've been using this computer for 6 years and apparently the new iMacs come in September so what's another 2 months? Is the wait going to be worth it? Or should I just fork out a few extra hundred and go 27 i5/7 from refurb store? My only problem is I wanted to buy from best buy bc I am part of the reward zone and I can use 200 to purchase already. Plus I can check the screens before I buy it and bestbuy covers drops/physical damage.

If I were you, I would splurge for the high end iMac, because you have been running off of a PowerBook for so long. If you get the 27" iMac, get the i5 version. In my experience, Best Buy takes about a week to get new models in, and will try to sell you the old models for retail price, without a discount.

I would really like to splurge on a high end computer. It had been a while since I've seen some "speed". Then again anything is a huge step up for me. My brother has the mini 2.25ghz and it runs wow just fine. So I figure an iMac with a card better than the geforce 9400 will do well. I am also eligible for 100$ student discount at bestbuy so that will shave some more off. I was also plannning on financing with an 18 month card offer.

Get a model with a dedicated graphics card instead of the integrated "laptop" graphics card. That alone will make a big difference gaming. But if you could hold off, I'd say hold off. The new iMacs should hopefully have modern graphics cards in them; the current iMacs are using a graphics card that hasn't been "new" in over 2 years. Not that you'll need that for wow, but why spend the same price now when just a bit more patience would buy something a lot better really soon?

I'm going to have to completely agree with you. I mean it is only a few weeks more to wait.
