Hey guys!

I'm new to MacRumors, been a long time reader, but I finally decided to join!

I'm a student, and this summer, I'm going to finally buy it...I am in love with the iMac and I gotta pay, I need a new computer and this is my perfect chance.
I have some cash, but I'm going to wait a little bit!

Here's my dream setup, I haven't had a computer run the way I want it personally since I was 5, so, here it is:

24 inch iMac
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHZ
4 GB of Ram (MacRAMdirect)
500 GB Hard Disk
Wireless Mighty Mouse
lol, 3-year warranty
iWork

lol, I bet you it's less than what a few of you have, but I'm so excited and I just can't wait to get one!

I just have one question: I don't want to buy a new computer for a few years after this, are iMac's known to last long?
Does the screen break down often, if it does, and my warranty is over, can I still get it repaired somewhere?

And the best part is...I'm making the switch from PC. :D

:p

Ive got the 20", and let me tell you that you're going to be blown away by the screen.

Such a beautiful computer, and so fun to use.

Congrats!

Hey congrats on getting your dream machine! Let us know how the transition goes, and if you have any questions, then ask.

I considered getting the 20 inch but then I thought, aww screw it, if it's gonna be my dream computer, the 24 inch is the highest I can go.

Either way, I wouldn't care, the 20 inch looks sick too...all iMac's look crazy! :D :apple:

Thanks for the input, I can't wait to use it either. ;)

24 inch? NICE! And the wireless mighty mouse is definitely a plus...I love mine :)

:D I heard the mouse was controversial, but when I got to play around with it, I gotta totally agree with you, I loved it.
I sat in front of a 20 and 24 inch at a time and I just couldn't resist how beautiful the 24 incher was; the 20 inch is nice, but the size of the 24 inch blew me away.

God I must sound like a little fanboy now.

Thanks buddy, I'll let you guys know when I get it in a few months, I'm itching to get one now but I think it'd be best if I wait for Penryn.

don't get the RAM from apple, save a few pennies and get it from Crucial and install yourself, it's really easy.

I've just got a 24" iMac and it's just an amazingly gorgeous machine. And thin! People don't really appreciate the thinness of it as you're always looking face on, but man this thing is THIN.

Is it possible that some days after MBA begin to be delivered we see an update in MBP and iMacs with Penryn? That would be around mid-February.

I'm hoping so...Although, I've gone off the idea of buying an iMac and buying a Mac Pro instead, I am getting impatient over the delay of the MBP's as I'm dying to buy one.

I hope those of you that want a new mac get your Penryn update soon, but I don't really expect an update for 4-5 months. Typically, updates are preceded by some bit of rumor. Without any rumors on this site, it's hard to imagine an update being near.

Exactly. Start with the 24" model that comes with 1 GB or RAM, and get Crucial or OWC. The money you save on the extra 1GB from Apple will probably be enough to get 4 GB elsewhere.
