My email notification not working

Does anyone know how to set the email notification. My email notification is not working on the right-hand side of the bar thanks

Make sure it is turned on in the Notifications pref pane in System Preferences. Also, it will only work if the Mail app is running AND hidden. It won't work for mail you send yourself, it has to be from someone else.

whats the point of notifications if you must have mail open anyway to receive emails - apple is losing it's edge big time without steve jobs.

I have notifications turned on and I get the banner but for some reason I don't get a sound. Anyone else have this problem or know a fix?
