my external hard drive

my powerbook (im running mac os x) doesnt recongize my new external harddrive but it recongizes my flashdrive.

i put my external harddrive usb in the usb port and nothing happens.

have you checked in disk utility? it may show up there...and you prolly need to format it...if it doesn't show up...there are a lot of problems with controllers....the controller on the external might be bad....check on newegg.com or somewhere if that's the case to get a good deal on new controllers.
