I bought a upgrade from ifixit because my hdd crashed and i switched it to a ssd, i installed it myself and im having a problem with my fan not turning on. I got a 3rd party program but it still wont turn them on. Its a Mid 2011 21.5' / 2.5 GHz Core i5

Were you disconnected from power before the install? Any liquid damage possibilities? You may have shorted something out while you were near the board. Have you tried SMC reset?

Yes, i was disconnected from power. No, i keep it out of reach of any liquids. I dont think so, when i do the SMC reset the fans turn on and everything but they are loud. When i restart the system with a shut down they wont turn on on the next power up.

There's 3 fans in your iMac.
Which fan is not running?

None of them

It sounds like you did not compensate for the temperature sensor when you swapped out the spinner hard drive for an SSD. However, that should only have an effect on the hard drive fan. The CPU fan and the Optical drive fan should work in either case. Something else is going on if all three fans are not spinning up.

i figured it out. I installed a 3rd party fan control. I had to manually set the temperatures so the three fans could spin up. It was weird because it was set to auto and it would not do a thing.
