Well on the way home from church my father and i started talking about how the Apple TV is not all its should be. Right now the Apple TV, as put in this joy of tech comic http://www.joyoftech.com/joyoftech/joyarchives/1132.html, the Apple TV is not much more than a hobby product at the moment. The current features are cool but really all they do is make it so what you watch on your computers monitor can be watched on an HD TV. The Apple TV has so much potential its insane. If you were to make it a headless server and wirelessly access all the information on it from any of the computers on its network using the admin account, it would make things alot easier and it would save alot of space too. Also if you were to make into a DVR or a fully functional cable box I'm sure Apple would make the most amazing GUI for it :apple: plus it would sell like hotcakes. It would probably sell as much or more than Apple's portable devices market. This Apple TV has the most potential out of Apple's products right now it could go really far. Please give other ideas as well if you have them. :D

although i do see your point as the fact that the apple tv has a lot of potential, i think your wrong in saying that its just a hobby product. the fact that you can put all your movies onto one external hdd and be able to watch anyone of those movies at the touch of the remote is worth the price of the apple tv for me right now. i don't have an apple tv, but im in the market and am going to buy one when/if they make some improvements to it. i would like to see full 1080P support first of all. i think that would make me buy it in a heart beat. The dvr function would be nice but not a make it or break it option for me. I would like to see hdd much much bigger so maybe we wouldn't have to always stream our content. Also like what has also been said i think an interactive remote of some sort would be a killer option that would make the apple tv above and beyond what it already is.

Apple TV Extreme Capsule

I've always wished for a combination Apple TV, base station router (Airport Extreme), and backup drive (Time Capsule). Basically a combination of 3 Apple products. Nice for the consumer, but bad for Apple.

I would have paid the sum of cost for each of these products for 1 device that does it all.

The iPhone as a remote makes the Apple TV more productive. (i.e. you can change music without needing the TV on to see what you are selecting, and when searching You Tube videos you can use the iPhone's keyboard.) However, it still does not eliminate the little white remote completely. Maybe that is coming next.

Apple TV is getting better little by little.

I think the Apple TV right now is fine...and will only get better, I actually canceled my cable and just use the Apple TV...tv tuner would be awesome, something that at least gets local channels..I can't see it getting cable...I really see no reason for safari

I am still hoping for EyeTV integration. I think this would only require Apple to open up the USB port SDK and allow 3rd parties the ability to develop for it. Obviously Apple would limit the types of apps being loaded. Kind of like the iPhone App Store.

First warn people it is a video.

Secondly what's so amazing about watching you play around with Front Row on your Hackintosh?

i see your point point it all depends on who the consumer is and what they do on their tv's if its a family who just watches movies most of the time and can live w/o cable or satellite this is a perfect product for them and its great because you can import all your DVDs then sell the discs on ebay or something save some space and get a little cash too especially with the movie collectors

i like the iPhone as a remote idea and if Apple makes a tablet that could also be the remote as well but i say keep the remote in case u dont have the iPhone or tablet if they make one

I still cannot use my Touch to remote anything I stream, only Synced content shows up, so for me it's basically worthless.

I can't remember what I did, but it was something with setting up the AppleTV as a streaming device in iTunes. Trying that out (or something along those lines) to see if it changes anything.
