Just got my Airpods Pro 2 today. Was trying to decide if I wanted Airpods 3rd gen or Pro 2nd gen. My previous earphones were Sony WF-1000XM3 and they broke so needed new earphones. I did consider the Sony WF-1000XM4 but I think they look awful and they are £195. Airpods were only £225.
I'm very impressed with the Airpods so far. They are so comfortable! The silicone/rubber tips don't get rammed into my ear canal but provide a nice snug seal to my ear. I was going to get the Airpods 3rd gen because of the lack of rubber tip because of how much I hate sticking them in my ear but I'm glad I didn't. These earphones are so much lighter too and don't seem to move as much. I could see myself wearing these for hours on end. The Sony earphones were comfortable but after a while I had to take them out. On Apple's site I see they say these have a pressure vent so perhaps it's that which makes the difference? With Airpods it feels like I'm not wearing earphones at all.
The transparency setting is really good. A lot better than my old Sony earphones. With the airpods you can still tell you're listening to sound through a microphone but it's so close to not wearing earphones that I think after a few days I'd get used to it. I'm slightly deaf in one ear and with the airpods I can hear better which is crazy so I think I could wear these all the time as a hearing aid.
Compared to my old earphones I do think the Airpods are quieter but maybe that's a good thing. The sound quality is still very good though. There is a very clear sound and defined bass. I don't know if I'm imagining it but when listening to some of my favourite songs I was noticing some details I hadn't recognised before.
Also because they are made by Apple they "Just work". It's much less hassle to pair them, turn them on, or change settings. I've deleted the Sony headphones app from my iPhone now. It's nice to have all the functionality of these Airpods built into the OS.
