iPod My first Digital Copy

I have the recent Star Trek movie on Blu-ray and just tried to use the digital copy. The results were interesting.

Attempt 1: As instructed, I inserted disk 3 and selected it in iTunes. It popped up with "please enter the provided code" along with references to Gran Torino. I closed iTunes and tried again.

Attempt 2: The movie showed up as Star Trek. I entered the code and was told that my session had timed out and that I should try again (I can't have taken more than a minute, all up). I closed iTunes again.

Attempt 3: It actually worked this time.

So, I got it going in the end, but is this really the norm? Has anyone else had issues with digital copies?
 
Yeah, the latest one. There are 2 Blu-rays containing the movie and extras, and 1 DVD containing the digital copy.
 
It's SD. The file on the disk has no extension, but it becomes an .m4v file once you import it into iTunes. There are also two WMV versions; one for Windows PCs and one for Windows-based portables (apparently they use two different formats). There's also an Xbox 360 game demo on there, which I haven't tried yet.
 
Early copy of DVD?

Fascinating............ the DVD/BluRay release date in the States is Nov. 11 and here it is October 30. I'm just saying.:D
 
That is interesting. Most of the time we're one day ahead with movies due to the timezone but sometimes we're a couple of weeks behind. It's good to be a couple of weeks ahead for a change :)

I just tried using the same disk and code on my other computer (logged into the same iTunes account). It worked without any of the issues I had on the first computer. It also looks like you don't need to keep a backup of the resulting file since you can just restore it from the DVD.

Edit: Release dates are weird. Australia and NZ got it this week, you said above that the US gets it on the 11th, and Amazon UK says 16th. It really makes you wonder how the industry works.
 
I have quite a few blu-ray movies and even some regular dvd's that came with digital copies. all worked just fine.

just put the digital copy dvd in the drive, it opens itunes and you enter the code on the paper that came inside the disc case. the only exception so far was batman which ran a program i entered the code on the paper and it gave me a different itunes code.

i love digital copies, they let me play them on my apple tv and my iphone. It would be cool to get the itunes extras or be able to pay a little more to get those.

That's interesting; I have Dark Knight and Independence Day and they didn't come with copies. It sounds like you need to specifically look for them; Star Trek is the first I've seen with the DC feature.

As a side note, isn't "digital copy" a bit of a silly name? The whole Blu-ray (and plain old DVD, for that matter) is technically a digital copy of the film. It also annoys me when people refer to licensed music downloads as "digital downloads" even though the pirated ones are digital too.

The Dark Knight single-disc release did not include a DC; only the Two-Disc Special Edition included it.

The Dark Knight Blu-Ray came with a Digital Copy. the Indipendence Day digital copy i bought with a regular dvd/digital copy pack i found at sams club i think.

Hmm, I have the special edition but neither disc appears to have a DC. Yours must be an "extra special edition" :p

Well, I can tell you that the Two-Disc SE that I bought is the exact same copy stocked throughout the U.S. Perhaps they didn't include a DC in your neck of the woods? Incidentally, the DC is included on the second disc, labelled, "Special Features and Digital Copy." What does your second disc say?
 
The second disk just says "2" (well, that, and copyright notices in 11 different languages). It also says "Freigegeben ab 16 Jahren gemäß § 14 JuSchG FSK" which I assume is German for "you need to be 16 to watch this". It most certainly doesn't look like a US release!
