So I have been wanting a Mac since I started getting interested in photography. I also loved the simplicity of the computer.
I joined here a little while ago to read and post sparingly. I have learned so much in my short time here, thanks!
Anyway, a little about myself. I am a Junior at West Virginia University, majoring in Communications with minors in Advertising and Entrepreneurship. The Advertising minor here seems to be pro-Apple. I take some online classes and work in the video production department for the football team here.
I've had a Dell laptop since I started school here. Over the past week or so it was basically done. I had hundreds of pop-ups coming up. Programs wouldn't open... I cleaned my hard drive, no dice. Nothing seemed to work, downloaded adware, etc. Nothing worked... So I found that the best alternative was to jump into the Mac world. I had originally wanted a MacBook, but I like having a big screen, plus if I can get my Dell working again I can use that as a laptop if I need to be mobile.
So, I went with the base model iMac ordered from Apple.com. I got next day air for 46 bucks, because I needed it by today. Well, as of yesterday they didn't know if it would actually ship out by the end of this week so I just cancelled it. I had to swallow my pride and go to Best Buy and buy it there with no EDU discount. That was hard, but oh well, I NEEDED it today.
My girlfriend loves it and is already talking about her next comp. being a Mac, good deal...
Here's where the questions start. I need office for my online classes (at least I think I do.) I downloaded NeoOffice, but it wouldn't recognize the .docx format on my friends computer sent to him as a test. My question is, I need it now... should I go back to Best Buy and just buy the student edition for 149.99? Or should I try and troubleshoot NeoOffice to work, any suggestions on that? I can get software through my university at journeyed.com, which makes the Office 2004 Pro version at 79.99. Will I still get the 10 dollar upgrade for 08'?
I have already discovered widgets. I love em', probably the best thing besides all of the fun I've had with photobooth. Are there any must downloads out there? I just downloaded Adium...
This jump doesn't seem to be as big as I thought. The help tab is the best thing ever on here. You should have seen me trying to eject a DVD from the drive...jesus, I'm an idiot. Anyway, thanks for all the help in the past on here and the help that I get from this thread.
