I'm a new member but have been reading this forum for some time and enjoy the shared knowledge and help to others you all bring.
Thought I'd share my experience after purchasing my first Mac.
Got it home and within 2 weeks I began to experience random shutdowns like so many others. By reading this forum I realized the Logic Board fix was what I also needed. I put up w the problem for a few weeks (I was enjoying learning all about my new Mac and didn't want to take it in for repair quite yet). A few days b4 my visit to the Apple Store my optical reader started to act up. Any burned CD or Photo CD was recognized by the computer as a blank disc. Weird I thought.
I get to the store and the Apple Genius was very receptive to my disapointment with the computer and also to my reluctance to have 2 repairs done on a machine less than 2 months old. I also mentioned that this was my first Mac ...... I was making the big switch from PC for all the creative freedom that Mac is famous for.
Well what do you know.......they decide to swap out a new machine for me.
Took them 20 mins. to put my hard drive into the new computer. B4 I left the store I asked the nice Genius if we could please just check my precious photo cds on the new "right out of the box" machine ....... just to calm my jitters.
Guess what? Right, the reader on this new machine didn't read mine or anyone else's discs. At first he suspected a software issue After checking all the prefrences he determined it was a hardware problem.
The poor guy was so embarassed and felt so bad for me. He said he's never seen this happen to anyone twice in a row.
He was so nice about it all and offered me a third computer on the spot. He personally made sure that I recieved one of the machines from the "new shipment" that had just arrived with all the pesky issues of the first run all ironed out.
Well I've had the machine now 3 weeks and it's a beauty, no glitches no bugs, no random shutdowns.
I must say I was treated fairly, respectfully and feel they did the absolute right thing for me. I am very pleased w my purchase and customer care I recieved. It goes to show that if you can calmly communicate ur feelings to someone and assuming that individual is properly up to speed on customer relations something positive will come out of it. My faith in Apple and this experience will be the bench mark for other co's to live up to.
Sorry for the long winded tale but sometimes a happy story is nice to share.
Peace.
PS I hope I can call upon the talents of the fine people on this forum to help me as I learn my way around my first Mac.
