Hello, I just got my first mac yesterday, its a stock 1.5 mac mini but i will probly add some more ram soon. I love the mac so far but I do have one problem (actually two, but you cant help me remember the keyboard shortcuts)

In itunes I can see my shared music on my pc but when I click on it, itunes trys to connect for about a minute then I get an error message, that says theres an error and to try to open port 3689.

Heres my setup
my cable modem running into a linksys 802.11.b router the router feeds my pc via a wired connection and my mac mini over wireless. both the firewalls on the mac and the pc are disabled and i did a simple port forward in the router for the port itunes told me. Front Row also tries to connect to my shared music but then says there are no users shareing music.

Thanks alot,
Lmcintyre

This is just me picking low-hanging fruit, but have you made sure that both machines are running the newest version of iTunes?

yep, updated bot the mac and pc verisions. Remember I can see the networks but I cant conned to them.

I would use the firewall on the Mac, and open the correct port not only in the System Preferences, but under iTunes sharing as well. (in iTunes go to PREFERENCES>SHARING)

I believe you have to allow access on iTunes for each computer that will access to stream.

I have file shareing turned on from the itunes menu and I have search for shared music selected also

Just wanted to expand the answer. Itunes sharing uses bonjour technology to share files. Bonjour for Windows is a zero config networking system designed by Apple. It will help do many things better with the Mac as well. Sharing network printers ETC. Any time you run dual platforms in the same house all of the Windows computers should have Bonjour installed it save many headaches and problems. I have a older Powerbook with Front Row installed and share music and IP printing with my roomates windows laptop.
