Any requests for questions, pictures, etc.?

I went to check one out in person at the Verizon store, and was a little underwhelmed by it. I have a feeling I may be moving back to the iphone 4s now (or possibly waiting for the iphone 5). Anyways, will need more time to tell.

Anyways, let me know if you have any questions. I've been using my GF's iphone 4 a lot these past few months, and came from a 3gs myself so I can compare with iOS readily. Not much experience with the 4s though.

----------

oh, my first impression of the phone was that it is BIG--almost comicly big. However, it felt normal after 20 minutes or so using it. It looks more like a small tablet than a phone.

Ok, here's a question/ request.

You know how in iPhone 4/4S if you look on web pages in portrait mode you can see the text clearly without needing to zoom in? Can you try that on the Galaxy Nexus if it's the same or is it blurry? I think it would be blurry because it's PenTile.

----------

Btw, I bet when you get used to the Nexus it will be hard to go back to iPhone for a while, it will look too small! Lol trust me, I went to SGS2 for a few weeks and it was hard getting use to the iPhone again.

Why ask questions, these comments are very revealing. They suggest an Anti-Android bias from the get go. It makes it rather obvious what the agenda is.

anti-android? Are you joking? This forum needs to be purged of all fanboys, whichever side they are on.

I came from a DX, DX2, currently on a Droid Charge, and preordered a Galaxy Nexus on the first day it was available.

You are going to tell me I am biased? LOL!

I will be sure to check that out. But I can address some pentile concerns just based off of my experience in the store, as I looked specifically for it:

I came from a DX2 which had terrible pentile pixelation and gradiation problems, so I was extremely concerned that the Nexus would suffer as well. So when I went to the store, I checked for pixelation and gradiation, and I found NONE.

I checked at minimum brightness, autobrightness, and max brightness; I held the phone from arms-length and held it up close to my face; I turned the screen from all viewing angles; I looked at different background colors, at icons on the homescreen, etc.--after all this, I couldn't see a single pixel.

It was one of the best screens I have ever seen in my life. The contrast, colors, resolution, etc. were all top notch. I think the only negative was the screen brightness, but it is on par with my Droid Charge and my original DX. It's hardly dim, it's just not as bright as say, teh DX2's screen.

I also double-tapped to zoom the browser on the macrumors website (normal view, not mobile) and zoomed into text on a white background with pinch to zoom. I was completely surprised not to see any pixels there either, and was surprised by how sharp everything looked. I was expecting to see jagged edges on zoomed in text, but it was completely smooth.

I remember seeing pictures/video reviews of the Nexus where you can clearly see pixelation/grids on the screen, especially on the homescreen icons. After my experience in the store, I have to say that is probably just an effect of capturing the screen on camera, and you probably won't see any of that with your eyes. I should disclaim that I do not have 20/20 vision, but I was wearing my glasses and my eyesight should be pretty average. So don't jump on my case if you are 15/15 and catch a pixel. :D

It's really a beautiful screen.

However, I have read reports of some aliasing/ghosting on black backgrounds while watching movies, and some gradiation problems on gray backgrounds on the Nexus forums. I have not seen any of that personally, but will look for it tomorrow.

You mean the iPhone forum needs to be purged of all fanboys?

Thats not going to be an easy task.

Lets just hope that iPad owners don't overtake the iPad forum, wait..... they haven't had they?

I work Android Tech Support for Samsung Phones. If I were you, I'd take that new Nexus back and go back to iPhone, 'cause you'll be calling me for support in about 3 months, watch. I mean, don't get me wrong, Android is awesome, but Samsung is bullshevik when it comes to their parts and customer support (they don't train us very well).

I doubt your integrity. You might be right, but I seriously doubt that.

I've been running a Nexus side by side with a 4S for the past week. It is easily as readable as the 4S.

Here's my question:
Why did you buy it then? I mean you don't seem all that jazzed up about it, why spend $$ on something that you admit is underwhelming and comically big

You can ? I always zoom in on mine. Screen is too small.

You can own a product and not be a fanboy of that product. I know, difficult concept.

Working tech support for anything means you get to see all the problems all the time. It comes to a point where you think the product you're supporting is pure crap, but what you're not seeing are all the happy customers with no problems. They don't just call up to say everything is fine and dandy.

Trust me, that's one of the first things you should be learning when doing tech support : your experience with the product's reliability and ease of use does not reflect the reality of it.

I did 4 years of tech support during my college years.

I've had far more success with Samsung smartphones recently than with any other manufacturer in recent years.

iPhone 3g - Replaced twice by Apple with refurbished handsets.
Nokia 5800 - Replaced due to a defective earpiece (common issue with the 5800)
HTC Hero - No issues
HTC Nexus One - First unit died after around a week of use. Second unit was sent back to HTC due to a faulty power button (common for the Nexus One)
Samsung Nexus S - No issues
Samsung Omnia 7 - No issues
Samsung Galaxy S II - No issues

So far, my success rate for faultless hardware has been higher with Samsung.

I ordered it the minute they offered it (before it was in stores) knowing that I could return it if I didn't like it.

COuldn't wait for it to arrive, so I went to a Verizon store 2 days before the delivery date (today).

Again, that was just a first impression. It's a great phone. I'm just saying it didn't blow me away.

*Edit* Sorry for the double post :S
Actually got a chance to play around with a nexus on the support floor today, I like the resolution and the fact that they did away with the bottom row of hardware "buttons" if that's what you want to call the LED sensor displays at the bottom of the previous Android models, in favor of a larger, more brilliant display. They've placed a row of quick access home apps similar to iOS along the bottom of the screen that you can access from any home screen, and I'm assuming you can customize. They've done away with the menu key, in favor of something slightly different, and they are now down to three of the original four face buttons, and have actually moved the LEDs for these buttons BEHIND the touchscreen, which, as mentioned before, allowed them to do away with the face keys entirely. To be honest, I've got mixed feelings about eliminating the menu key, as I could not immediately find the settings menu, whereas before you just press menu>settings. I know that if it threw me off a bit, it will definitely throw off some of the customer's who call me on a daily basis looking for help.
Other than that, I didn't do a side by side comparison of the Nexus versus previous models of Nexus phone, or Galaxy SIIs because I was on the phones, but the new Nexus is definitely larger, if not the largest Android cellular handset screen to date, under the Note.
