I was strictly an iPhone user ever since the 3G came out, not because i'm an apple 'fanboy' but because the iPhone always did what i wanted it to do. Upon the recent release of the Galaxy S3 and many of my buddies raving on how android is amazing i decided to give the Galaxy S3 a try, I was always skeptical about android phones. So I got one, and my first impressions were not good at all. First off, its too big that it sits uncomfortably in your hands. With it being too big and the screen being overly sensitive you accidentally hit the the bottom 3 buttons with your palm. The OS is a mess and the battery is horrendous. Constantly having to tweak options to better your battery is just complete BS and doesnt do its job of a 'smartphone'. What also got annoying to me was the cheap build quality, the plastic body/buttons really make it feel cheap. One things i did really enjoy about the S3 was the actual phone aspect of the device, The phone quality in my opinion out-beats the iPhone and is Samsungs best feature. Theres a million other things I could cover but those are the main things I experienced after fooling around with the S3 for 2 days. I miss my iPhone 4S, looks like im gunna be switching back to the 4S and many of Apples products in the future.

I gotta ask, but why in the world is your palm hitting the capacitive buttons at the bottom?
As for the battery issue. Android does not hold your hand like iOS. You have to control it, and there are many threads explaining why your battery isn't lasting. It is usually new to Android users that don't realize that they have an app running in the background that is keeping the phone awake, so it never goes into full standby/sleep mode. Also, do you have widgets updating every 5 minutes. Any apps pushing data constantly? You using live wallpaper and have your screen brightness at 100 percent? Are you on LTE all the time? There are a lot of factors to consider. Or it is possible you got a bad battery. It does happen.
If you don't like the os or the phone, cool. But anyone that comments about a bad battery has something wrong either with what they are doing or a bad battery.
Because if the battery is good, I can make any S3 easily outlast any 4 or 4s and do it by hours.
The thing you have to keep in mind about Android is that they are dealing with battery issues apple has been afraid to deal with in their phones, and why they are late to the LTE game. Just the increase in processing power from the 4 to the 4s and people were in a tizzy about the drop in battery life. Add a larger screen and LTE and iPhone users will be having a stroke come the 5. If you want to extend your battery life with android you have to be conscious about whats going on. If you want to extend your battery life with iOS you turn down your brightness and then bitch in a thread for 1000+ posts until apple releases a "Fix".
what i meant was that it was annoying to constantly tweak your options, and even after your done tweaking them to better your battery life, your still having to constantly be near a charger throughout your day. I didnt nearly have that bad of an experience with my 4S, but then again many other factors come into play, smaller screen, no widgets, live wallpapers etc. So in the end what im saying is that if a phone is giving you all these options/features on a phone but limits you by battery life, then doesnt that defeat its ability to be a smartphone.

i wasnt trying to bash android, if i was against android and just went out of my way to bash em then i wouldnt have bought an android phone. I'm simply telling my experience with android and what i didn't enjoy about it. Its for those considering to get an android like I was.
Guess that depend on perspective. You are limited on apple without JB'ing the phone. So is iPhone really a "smartphone" in that sense? There's a reason why it's been labeled as the dumbest smartphone available. Anyone can pick it up and use it.
It's doesn't limit you to anything. But you do have to be a little cautious on what you download and use. One example is live wallpapers. I use one, but it doesn't take a toll on my battery, because I found one that doesn't try to throw ads at you, or try to pull info from your phone. It, s called ice galaxy.
I can charge my S3 to 100 percent, pull it off the charger and put it in standby mode. And an hour later, it will be at 99 percent. I usually have my phone in tether mode 4-5 hours a day and when I head home, I am still at 30 percent or so. And the nice thing is, I have another stock battery and Samsung charger, so I can pop my battery out and put a new one in and be back up in running in less than a minute. And I can use my phone, while the other battery chargers. It is a nice to have feature. That's just me though.
I will be curious to see how long the iphone 5 lasts on its battery, considering it is the same size as the 4s.
My guess is iOS6 will have a toggle in the settings for LTE just like the 3G iphone had for 3G. Apple will then tell it's users to modulate it's use to extend battery life.
Im a novice when it comes to this, I plug my S3 to charge at about 8PM until fully charged, unplug it and and leave it on standby overnight. I have live wallpapers, I don't close apps and use the phone fully throughout the day, I have never come home with more 50% of my battery used at the end of the day. My impression is that there is something wrong with your battery.
But then it's not really a smartphone.
j/kI was thinking the same thing. A little toggle. Boy are iOS users in for an eye opener when the iphone is able to use LTE.
We need to be more courteous in this part of the forum, even when we get drive by trollers (I am not saying this thread is, don't take it that way OP.) the admin of the board was gracious enough to make this just for us, so let's be a cut above the ihate and fandroid trollers. I know you were just being sarcastic, but this was someone's opinion and posted it here to share with us. Snide comments aren't needed, even if it makes you feel good.

in my opinion a 'smartphone' is a phone that carries out tasks conveniently with the least amount of stress and worry. The android isnt any less of a smartphone than an iOS iPhone, but the fact that you have to take a lot of features into account with the android defeats your experience with a smartphone is a hassle, thats just from my perspective. I can carry out the same tasks on an iPhone as the android but without the worry and stress, so in a sense it does make it smarter.

Its true i only did use the phone for 2 days, maybe a little more fooling around will brighten my experience with the phone. I hit the bottom buttons usually when i turn the phone into landscape to view videos or even browse. My palm slightly overlaps the edge of the phone and hits back since they're so close to the edge. Also when im trying to text with one hand.
I don't think he is a Canadian, and I'm not sure if Rogers and the other carriers put bloatware on your phones like at&t does? (I think he was referring to carrier vice Samsung bloatware.)???
You can go into settings and then app manager and click on any app, then hit the disable button. This doesn't require rooting and allows the bloatware to disappear and not function with the phone. Bloatware is still there on the phone if you ever need it, just frozen and unobtrusive.

iOS doesnt have true multi-tasking. All it does is suspend the app. Its push notification also seems to be slower than Android. iOS deals with alot less background usage which equals higher battery life. It's CPU is even underclocked to 800 MHz. Now imagine if it had true multi-tasking, widgets, better notification, LTE, 1.5 GHz quad core and so on? Battery life wont be as pretty. I own both Android and iOS phones. iOS has the best battery because it isnt as tacked on with so much background usage like Android or even Windows Phone with their live tiles.
Actually, it just means that Android is smarter than you. I have configured my phone to what I want, now I just enjoy using it without the excessive need to further tweak everything.
Firstly not to rant too much but it's nice you gave it a try.
Secondly I really think I am getting tired of hearing from people who have to be babied by their devices. Is a smart phone really smart if it enables the user to remain complacent or is that just the trait of a great product? Kind of reminds me on how damn lazy/stupid beautiful people are compared to your average joe or jane who has to use their talents and personality/intellect to get ahead.
More and more it seems that Apple is coasting on simple/lazy people who don't want to have to think for themselves. Yes, I appreciate that we have enough stresses in our lives that to have tech just spoon feed you what you want when you want is great, but if this is your preference, don't reach for the different if you can't handle that sometimes it takes some work to get what you want from it.
It seems that a lot of people who get caught up in the Android hype switch without having a clue what they are getting into. They bump into a higher spec phone that uses up more energy and whine about battery or the fact that they have to tweak the phone a bit to get the best out of it. They don't want to learn or keep an open mind but are happy to whine about how it doesn't think or do for them. Why switch in the first place if you are so damn happy with what you have? Or is this one of those cases of I didn't know what I had til it was gone?

Well, you put it kind of bluntly. I wouldn't say Apple is babying iphone or ipad users, they just build a device that automates many features so even a new user to an iDevice or smartphone can work it with relative ease. Think of the elderly that have shied away from tech because it looked to complicated.
This is what a lot of people want too. It is no longer for me, because I wanted to have the freedom to do what I wanted with my phone and tablet.
And you have to give new Android users some leeway, especially if they have been on iOS for the last few years. It really is like going from Windows to Linux or Ubuntu.
i dont understand why people have to get so defensive and give rude sarcastic comments, i was just simply pointing out what i didnt like about me switching to an android device. I'm a fan of both platforms, just because I had a bad experience with 1 phone doesnt mean im bashing android in general.
The first LTE chips are hot, large, and power hungry. The second are less so. Also you seem to be unaware that Apple has had an LTE iPad out for awhile now using the 1st gen chip with pretty much the same battery life as previous versions. The new iPhone will use the 2nd Gen chip and a version of the improved battery found in the latest iPad. Apple actually cares about battery life unlike Google and their partners. Its always amusing to see Android users talking about how they can get a days battery life if they just turn this, that, and the other off.

The reason anyone can pick it up and use it is interface design. Simple is much harder to design than complex. Parading around the idea that you are smarter because you use an inferior interface is immature but it is typical of Android forum posters.

Wrong on all counts. Read up on iOS multi-tasking and iOS internals in general. Also review some profiler reports about Android vs iOS thread and proc usage. Android is a much less efficient OS when it comes to resource utilization. It is particularly poor at multiple processor core utilization which is why quad core Android phones see hardly any speed boost.
