So, I used a 6inch bungee cord as the car "mount" and installed the iSimple ISCH73 to seamlessly integrate it into my factory car stereo of my 300c. The steering wheel controls work to control the volume and forward and back iPod controls. Pretty bitchin setup and all it cost me was about $100 for the kit and bungee cord :)

Video of it in action:

Link to the iSimple kit. I think they make them for most cars.

Couple pictures of the "set-up" :)

If you don't need the A/C, radio, or CD player, then you are good to go. The heater might melt it in the winter....good luck with that.

Oh I thought that was a nav. what a needlessly large screen for a radio! I guess it's an Infiniti?

Maybe I'm missing something but I don't see the need to have the radio uncovered since the iPad is now being used in place of it. As for the A/C none of it is covered so I can still get to all of it and the vents are free to blow like normal.

Oh, ok then I don't get it but then again my nav is only a year old and still way more useful than what the iPad comes with imho. If your maps are seriously dated then yes, I do get it.

My Nav is from 2005 so it isn't that bad and I will probably still use it as opposed to my iPad since its there. I don't plan on having my iPad there all the time just when I take a long trip and want all my media with me. I have the iSimple hooked up to my iPod in the center console most of the time and it still integrates with the steering wheel controls so it was well worth the $100 since my car did not have an AUX port to plug iPods in.

I don't have pics atm, but mine also involves bungie cords. :)

Except its horizontal atop the gearshift slightly slanted in the direction of the driver seat. Actually the low angle using the Apple case, closest to horizontal. Perfect for viewing and tapping on.
I don't get the whole vertical mounted iPad thing, doesn't work for me.

Vertical is best for videos, that's why I prefer it.

Cute but it seems to cover up some fairly important crap.

I lol'd

On a serious note, I have no idea why you would want to cover up your stock nav with a slightly bigger screen? I mean yea you can watch movies while (driving?) but I would think the main reason for mounting an iPad in a car would be for navigation.

It may not make sense to you but I think it's absolutely better then my stock nav unit. To each his own I guess.
