Here's my idea for an improvement to Apple's Notification Center. One of my main gripes with how Apple deals with notifications is a lack of a visual reminders not including the lock screen. I find myself browsing the web, or typing something up for hours at a time forgetting that a notification ever came in.
My solution is simple and un-intrusive. You guys know the glowing notification bar when in a phone call or tethering? Take that, and give it a soft, pulsing white glow. Throw in an API to allow developers to throw in a logo into the status bar. I threw together quick and simple Photoshop. Sorry in advance for the ugly.

That girl looks evil.

There's a tweak in cydia called open notifier which will add symbols for notifications in the status bar.

We don't necessarily need the icon of the service that is throwing up notifications, because there is limited room, etc. But we definitely need some type of notice that there are pending notifications. I like your white bar idea. Could be really nice. Any kind of color change or even a single graphic that alerts you to the notifications would be great.

I was thinking once too many icons popped up on the status bar, the little OSX Mountain Lion Notification Center button could show up to indicate more than three unread notifications, as to avoid the mess that is the Android status bar. Here's another quick mockup.

I'd rather the menu bar changed colour, like a blue colour (since red indicates you're in a call). I don't need to know what the notification is, I just need to know there is one waiting.

I don't think having tiny icons to represent what notification you have waiting would work - it would end up too busy.

Blue wouldn't work either, since blue is already Personal Hotspot. And I thought green was a call, it's definitely FaceTime. Red is the Voice Recorder app. At least that's what I think...

I think a small icon showing that there is notification is all you would need. A flashing status bar, or a different colour, would be to distracting for the times when you've already read the message from the banner that pops up and don't need to go to the app to read or reply.

There is a jailbreak addon very similar to this. This looks slightly nicer, and I agree that this functionality would be welcomed, at least by me.

Ah yeah, it's green for a call, red for voice recorder.

Still, even a red square or something noticeable but not obtrusive. I need to know at a glance I have an unread notification when my phone is unlocked, and something that stands out slightly in the menu bar would be ideal.
