Why 1TB while offering 8 GB ram... The processor is probably right (or at least I hope so) but the graphics... nah. The iMac doesn't use the MBP graphics, often more powerful.
Highest gpu on new mbp is radeon 6750m (which ironically slower than radeon 5750 on current imac). So radeon 6950 for new top end imac sounds about right IMO

I honestly think Apple will be sticking with the 4GB ram. Its kind of odd they would bump it up from 4 to 8 in one update (thats just me). Otherwise, I really do hope these specs are close enough, because im in the market for an iMac
Cosmetic Changes?
Do you think there will be any cosmetic changes? To me, with Lion they are trying to bring apps back to PC's cause they have killed PC's with these apps on mobile devices. With the Macbook Air, I believe it was Jobs who said that touch screens do not like to be vertical. But months back, Apple filed a patent that would allow an iMac to pivot on a stand to where it could lay horizontally on a table. Giving the ability for a touch screen iMac and the ability to have an almost iPad experience...If I can find that patent I will post it.

Found it! This was on Macrumors at one time also. This would bring people back to the iMac. I know that it isn't even confirmed, but I am waiting and wishing for this!

I don't think there will be any cosmetic changes, i think the coming update will only be updated specs and a complete re-design in 2012 or so
See to me, the whole point of OSX Lion is Back to Mac like they said and it would make sense to me for them to completely start over and get people back to the Mac with a new design and a fresh experience. But like you say...as much as I want it to, I don't think it'll come either?
i cannot tell you how disappointing it would be to see this (it's a link for a touchscreen imac design).
i'd buy a refurb of the current line ASAP before i bought a touchscreen iMac. I like my keyboard and Intuos4 tablet.
I agree with the keyboard and mouse, but the cool thing about this is that it runs almost two different softwares on one device. The idea with this is that it would run OSX Lion when upright (your normal mac software), but then when pivoted to the horizontal flat angle the software would shift to a more iOS software allowing you to pretty much have an iPad at your desk. I think it is brilliant!
I really don't think it's brilliant at all. Pivot the Mac all you want. For one, not everyone has their iMac optimally placed right in front of the user for easy access like shown in the patent. I have my MIDI keyboard placed between me and my iMac. Please tell me how am I supposed to take advantage of a touch based Logic Studio with a ginormous iMac screen hovering over my keys and other MIDI gear. This can be applied to any person needing other materials in front of them, i.e: paper, books, notes, pens, phones, or other devices. Say goodbye to easy accessibility from any key items you may need at your desk, because you know a 27" imac is going to pretty much devour any desk real estate you just had in right front of you. Push the iMac back you say? That just brings you back to square one, forcing the user to extend his/her arm to reach the iMac, and arm fatigue is not what Apple or the user so desires. Don't forget about users who also have iMacs on monitor stands or wall mounts even. There are countless other variables that people ignore because they only tend to see the use for their own specific needs. No, I'm against touch screen iMacs, thank you very much. I also don't want a thousand fingerprints, dirt, and god knows what on my $2000 piece of hardware. The next thing you know, we'll be getting threads titled, "Help! Spilled coffee on my 27" iMac!".
However, I do wholeheartedly believe that Apple is thinking very hard to make Macs successfully touch based, but I don't think it will be a direct tactile experience right on the screen itself.
I would guess that Apple is still going to bridge touch and Mac via an input device. The trackpad is the start of this and I suspect Apple will continue to evolve in this direction. I personally would prefer a touch screen LCD peripheral (similarly iPad sized), with the same aspect ratio of a Mac display, that would show a direct image of what you see on the screen and interface that way. Much like how current VNC apps for the iOS devices available now, but with Bluetooth like latency.
Edit: not sure if that would work, but I'm just throwing some alternative ideas around.

IDK? I think I still have to disagree, I think it would be extremely successful among most people. I also realize that there are people out there that have iMacs that need them for design and editing as that is what I use my MBP for. On the other hand, it would be able to take this business machine used for editing and mixing and photoshop; and turn it into something that is entertaining and used around the house by the whole family. I don't have a degree in computer science or know a whole lot about the internals of a computer, but I read a lot of rumors and watch all the keynotes, and follow Apple with everything they do. Turning the iMac from a PC to an entertainment hub that is used for business and pleasure is exactly what they shoot for with all their products. If you don't like the pivot, it seems like you wouldn't have to use it!? And the only way that I would buy it is if it was first a PC and then an iOS device using apps.

Yeah I think the patent is general and there are def. stuff that need to be worked out, but it's Apple... I don't think it'll take place of the iPad, cause i feel that takes place of the MB. But it would be something that people would purchase on top of an iPad to use for home use. But who knows? they file so many patents and most of them never see the light of day.
They could bring out a version that didn't have a built in screen. That would be the cosmetic change I want. A mid range Mac sans monitor.
