Hi all,
my imac crashes sometimes very suddenly, like in a power failure. it doesn't force quit or shut down, it just goes like somebody pulled the plug.
it's usually possible to start it up again after 30minutes or an hour.

the plug and lead seem to be fine. i tested it on another mac.

the obvious suspicion would be overheating, but how can that be caused so suddenly (and how can i fix it)?

it's an imac intel core duo, 20", 2 ghz, 2gb ram from 2006. I'm running Mac OS X (10.4.11) 2006

thanks for reading
i appreciate any advice

jeez

that doesn't really make me feel any better. in fact worse. i had hoped for something tangible that was broken and could be fixed.
thanks for the links though!

i did do what many others seem to have done, which is to download an app that controls the fans manually. i'm waiting to see whether it helps.

repair

has anybody managed to repair this or replace parts to mek it work again?

Take it to the Apple Store, what do you expect people on an Apple rumors website to do about your claimed mechanical failure.

Really, it's pointless to come to an online forum to report mechanical failures. There's really nothing anyone here can do about it, while an Apple store can take it apart and fix whatever is wrong with it.

it's never pointless to ask other mac users about their experience. there are clearly quite a few people out there who have similar problems, maybe somebody managed to repair theirs.
There is no apple store near me, so I can't just pop down there.
