I ordered the 27 inch imac last tuesday becuase my computer was on the fritz and it ended up dieing on thursday. my problem i need a computer asap, and i'm just worried becuase, the imac finally shiped last friday night, but i haven't seen any progress since

This is suprising becuase the ipod i ordered with it came straight from china and only took 48 hours to get to the east coast US (where i am located)

I know the imac is much larger, but as far as i know it hasn't even left california where it originated and its almost been 72 hours since it has been shipped.

I plan on calling this afternoon if it doesn't start moving, however i want your thoughts on it

oh and here is the order track so far

It didn't move because it was weekend. Besides, it can take up to 24 hours for the carrier to update its website

Okay thanks, just with past experiences along with the ipod touch that is on its way to my door right now that they usualy traveled during the weekend and i basicaly know whats up instantly when its gets scanned in at each location.

But hopefully it already took alteast one plane trip and is waiting to be scanned in sometime today.

I won't start really worrying till tonight then ;)

It also could be in transit sitting in a truck rolling down the road. You will not get a status when that happens. Your next status will be when it arrives at the next fed ex location.

This is true, but don't you think they would shove it in a plane, I just seams silly for them to put it in a truck and ship it to the other side of the country from california to New Hampshire

Though i'm not familiar with how they ship large packages like the iMac so that might be what they do, and i guess it would explain why its almost been 72 hours without an update, a truck driving anywhere near the east coast would take at least that long.

I ordered on the 4th, and also live on the east coast - here's its progress.

It took a good five days without progress updates to go from California to Maryland, but I live in DC so I've only gotta wait till tomorrow!

Don't trust the estimates by the way - it initially said the 8th, then the 11th, and now the 14th.

okay thanks alot they does help my confidence, though it does look like i'm going to be out of a computer for almost a full week or more

And yea, i have learned to never trust the estimates, it said the ipod touch was going arrive on the 15th and it was actually already at my local fedex facility yesterday and came just a few hours ago.

Its sorta frustrating though :p i'm so used to checking the updates of where it is, generally i don't care how slow it takes, its the thrill of seeing the progress that its getting closer and closer. :) hopefully all of a sudden it will be like boom its only a few hours away.

I can't wait

I can't wait

I am hoping for you that you get one that is not defective. I have been without a computer since July 28th (give or take a day or 2 in-between replacement units).

Actually waiting for replacement #4 as I type this (should be here any min), which has been bouncing around in the back of a UPS truck since Sept 3rd (and I was assured it would go "express" this time). I *am* in Canada, so I don't expect overnight service, but I am not in an Igloo, and I can see the lights of Port Angeles, Wa from my bedroom window.

And yes, the updates are pretty bad. They basically tell you when the package left, then nothing, then "it's on the truck out for delivery".

Good luck. Fingers crossed for you.

p.s. UPS just knocked on the door at 7:38 pm ! Transferred system to new 27" and am so far a happy camper.

I'm in the same boat... or delivery truck as you. I ordered last Tuesday as well. (Last day of the free iPod deal). The iPod and printer shipped within 24 hours (about 23 hours). The printer shipped via FedEx and was delivered Saturday, with constant location updates and spot on delivery estimate. The iPod shipped via UPS and just arrived today.

The iMac (27" i7) was supposed to ship within 1-3 days. (It shipped at 11:56:15 PM at the end of day 3 [Fri]) The FedEx page was last updated on Saturday, saying "Departed FedEx location - Sacramento, CA". It's supposed to arrive on Thursday. I'm not holding my breath, but Thursday has been the late estimate since last Tuesday. It seems like such a long time until I realize that its been under a week since I ordered, and it should be here in three days. I waited a month and a half for my iPad 3G to arrive (pre-ordered in March).

If only Apple would implement a system like Amazon Prime. Anyone who spends over $500 a year gets free 2nd day delivery or $4 overnight.

UPDATE: FedEx has finally changed the status on my shipment. Its now sitting in Salt Lake City, UT. That's about 1/3 of the way here (WI), so I'm feeling pretty confident it will arrive on Thursday.

Wow.

That is a big difference from what I'm seeing. Two weeks ago I ordered an i5 iMac 27" for my mom. Placed order Thursday, left Chula Vista - Memphis - YYC , was in Calgary Friday morning, but had to wait to Tuesday for delivery due to holiday. Just ordered a time capsule on Thursday, again it went Chula Vista - Memphis - YYC, got to Calgary Friday morning, delivered to my house before lunch today. I paid nothing extra for shipping.

I can't see why so much of the US stuff is going ground, when we seem to be getting free 2nd day to Canada.

It could have been from the weekend but I am seeing this with Fedex with all of my orders.

My snowboarding stuff is all magically non-updated for days, my iPod nano was the same way, it was to be delivered on the 10th, I got it today, my new goggles, and some other orders are the same way. A few haven't been updated in 5 days.

i am in exactly same situation with you... i ordered an imac 21.5 inches with 3.60 i5 at september 6, and they gave it to fedex at september 9...

Estimated delivery for apple is september 17, for fedex is september 16.

so last action of my imac is at Sep 10, 2010 9:02 AM

This frustrating almost 4 days later and it gets updated and it's only moved to north salt lake, Utah. Only moved two sates, and is a real small fraction from my house I. Nh, they better speed it up.

mine also updated but my update's date looks like 12 even if it updated on 14. they are entering data lately i think. so if yours is like this... you should not get worry about that... because the last location is also old.

Its like alot of us are in the same shipment, going from newark, sacromento and now salt lake city (mine says north salt lake) only problem for me is that is only 1/5 of the way hear. While Wyoming is just right next door.

There is definitely something with Fedex. My snowboarding stuff still has not moved. My snowboarding goggles say "out for delivery" but the truck never arrived. Its always here by 11am meaning its not getting delivered today :( (I've had enough Fedex deliveries to know the routine, if I call they will say the package isn't there :( )

Yea, I just noticed that the salt lake update showed the 13Th, plus all it says is in transit so hopefully it didn't stop somewhere for long and just kept on goin, stil at that rate they wouldn't be nearing Nebraska till tomorrow, nevermind the east coast
