I bought my iMac about a year ago. It has been fine up until the last couple of months. It is intel based with 1 terabyte hard drive.

The stupid thing lags now when I type or scroll. When scrolling on a website, it will pause about half way down for about a second and then it catches up. Same thing with the typing.

What in the world is causing this????

If you temporarily create a new user and log into this account is the issue resolved?

Wow that is weird. It doesn't do it with a different user. Why is that?

So now we know its something wrong with you specific user account. I would suggest verifying and repairing disk permissions while booting off the OS X disk.

Ok thanks. Just got to find the disk now. The wife misplaced it when we moved

You can probably get away without the disc. For now go into applications->utilities->disk utility. Select your HD and Repair Disk Permissions. Should do the trick.

You guys rock! That seemed to fix the problem. I haven't noticed any lags. What does fixing the permissions actually do?

Thank You!! :D

Fixing permissions well.............without being scientific, it gives back the right permissions that got messed up either by installing new software, crashes, writes, etc.

The first time I did that on our macbook I was amazed at the difference. It has now become a maintenance ritual I do every couple of months on my iMac and the Macbook that my kids absolutely hammer.

Not to go off on a tangent, ok I will, I have to give Apple alot of credit. The Macbooks are sleek, sexy and seem that they should be handled with the utmost care but they take the abuse and just keep on working. Our Macbook is 1 year old now and even with the kids hammering it, it just keeps on ticking. In previous years I had to reload windows every 3 months, thank you Apple!

Glad your problems are fixed :) I didn't even think of trying without the disk.
