Hi there!
When I first got my iMac (few months ago) it was so quiet I could barely hear it. Now though, i can hear the fan inside (think its a fan) quite loud. If im watching something, i still hear the fans humming over the audio sound. Is this normal?
And is there a way to make it stop? It is placed right up to the wall, as near as it goes.. Is this a problem? :)
Any help is appreciated !! :)

my old g5 was sent out three times to have the logic board replaced becuase the fans would run full speed all the time, not sure if this is still an issue with the newer intel boards though

install iStat Menus and see what's the fan speed.
This should give you a idea what's wrong.
Also try to use a vacuum and suck all the dust from the vents. There's more of it there than you can prolly imagine.

Okay, great I will try with the vacuum. But will I have to do it with a special one, plastic or something? Or can I just use a normal one? It wont break it? hehe :)

No guarantees, but a normal vacuum cleaner worked for me. I recently had to replace the broken hard drive in my G4 iMac (using these helpful instructions: http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/systems/iMac_G4/imacg4_takeapart.html) so while I had it in pieces all over the table, I got rid of the thick carpet of fluff coating the circuit board and all the fluff which had worked its way into every single crevice of the machine's innards...

I tried with the vacuum, but i can still hear the humming.. I downloaded the iStats though and it says:
CPU A: 31'C
GPU: 40 'C
GPU Diode: 41'C
GPU Heatsink: 39'C
Ambient: 20'C
Mem controller: 32'C
Airport card: 52'C
HD bay 1: 33'C

CPU fans: 1199rpm
Hard drive: 1199rpm
Optical drive: 999rpm

I just turned it on about 5 mins ago. Are the temps normal? :) Maybe I need to open it as well since my room gets dusty really (!!!) quickly..

Thanks for any help

yeah the CPU, GPU and fan stats look normal to me...but your optical drive's rpm is about 300 rpms higher than mine. just to double check, is it buzzing or humming?

I would definitely say its humming and not buzzing :)
Is it better to have lower numbers?

Thanks so much :)
