I've had my iMac for over a week now, figured I would do a full review now. I'll start with my first impressions, then do specific things. It's a 20" 2.4 Ghz model, from April that I have since upgraded to two gigs of RAM.

My first impression: WOW. Great screen, not a single dead pixel, and the 20" is perfect for me. It is easily the best screen I have ever owned, which will make watching movies on it great. Plus, it's quite fast, much faster than my laptop from a year ago (not surprising). Anyway, down to the specifics.

OS X Leopard Nice. It's a beautiful operating system and it works great. I actually have fun exploring the system, instead of just going on my computer to get work done. Everything is easy and intuitive, and even though I haven't ever used OS X as my main workstation, I have used it in the past, and I have had almost no trouble adapting.

Hardware Great hardware. The keyboard is fantastic and the Mighty Mouse is surprisingly nice. I didn't think I would enjoy it this much, but I'm not even looking around for another mouse. As I said before, the screen is amazing, the most beautiful I've ever owned. iTunes visualizer looks great; more on that later.

Speed Everything works so well and so fast, it's amazing. I was just converting 19 11.5 minute long AVI files to MPEG in a row using iSquint on the highest settings and it only took about 4 minutes/file. Plus, I could still use the system without it slowing down at all. Also, it was still super quiet, much better than my laptop which always had loud fans going.

General built-in stuff Dashboard, Exposé, Spaces, (for what little time I've used it), Front Row and other built in things are great and really make using the computer easier (Exposé rules!) and fun. I'm really looking forward to using iDVD and get some of my AVI files onto DVD's so I can watch them on TV.

iTunes I think this deserves it's own section. iTunes on my laptop was slow and buggy (MPEG movies often wouldn't play, Cover Flow was slow, etc.). On my iMac, though, it's super quick and I haven't had any problems. Plus, since upgrading to iTunes 8, the visualizer is great and I am really looking forward to just watching it in bed before I go to sleep. And with the Apple Remote, I don't even have to get up to put the computer to sleep.

There's so much more I could talk about, but I couldn't do that unless I outlined what I wanted to say so it would be cohesive and make sense. Overall, I love this computer. I love how everything works together and does it well. It is easily the best computer I have ever owned. 10/10 rating. I don't think I will be selling it for quite a few years to come.

P.S. 10 awesome points for the first person to tell me who said this and where it's from.

"Well, nobody's perfect."

Osgood - Some like it Hot - do I win??? :D

Glad you like your imac - I have switched 3 friends onto imacs and have done the installation and admin etc for them all and its really a great machine. The last was a 24" with the 2.8 extreme proc. In real world it was maybe 10-15% faster in 'feel' - no stats here!

Probably one of apple's greatest designs and when I move to a place big enough I will be getting a 24" -

I recently started a thread on MBP like this, its great to hear the positive feedback and experiences and also really satisfying when people chip in, well i guess that's the whole point of MR!!!

Yes, you do indeed win. How did you like that ending? Cause when I saw it the first time, I fell out of the sofa laughing. One of the best movies ever made.

Anyway, yeah, I love this computer. It is an excellent design. And the best part is how I now have more desk space, since I don't have a writing pad taking up space for my laptop (the writing pad was so I could easily slide the computer across the desk). Plus, the foot of the iMac is smaller than the footprint of my old laptop. It's great!

I've had the 2.4GHz 20" iMac for quite some time now and I love it.

The thing is as stable and so much more quieter than my old self built desktop PC. My initial gripe I thought I'd have with the machine was the ATi Radeon 2400XT 128MB but after using it it isn't actually too bad (Civ4 and ET Quakewars work good enough for me). I'm dual booting XP and OSX and couldn't be happier!
