Here is a picture of my 24" iMac. I took off the glass to clean what I thought was dirt, but it ended up being some type defect in the screen, like someone was trying to peel off a layer of the LCD but stopped half way or something. Well we definitely know it's not that, so what is it? Has any one else run into this? I don't have applecare, am I SOL?

Hope you have apple care ;)

hard to tell...

I'm not sure. It sure looks like residue left from some kind of cleaning product. Etched? not likely...
What do you see if you use a strong magnifying glass? Any odd reflections from either front or back surface--or is that image on the LCD itself!

If it's on the LCD, then it could be that someone used a harsh cleaner and messed up the LCD... I don't know of anyway to reverse that.
Any one else?

If you could find out (somehow) just what kind of cleaning fluid was used (and where) you might be able to reverse it. Otherwise... you'll have to get creative.

Gray Streaking Under the glass in 24" iMac

I have the same problem. I haven't used any cleaners on my iMac, and the problem is definitely below the glass. It seems to be gradually expanding.
