If it is estimated to be delivered on the 7th, then it will most likely come out on the 31st, or this coming Tuesday. If the build date is on the 7th, then its the 7th.

Either way, it's a good sign :D.

If I bought a 20" imac now from the Apple store online, is there a chance they would ship the old version, even if the update is coming this Tuesday. Alternately, If I bought an imac and left it unopened until August 7th, would I be able to get either a reduction in price or an exchange to the newer model if it is actually released on the 31/7th timeline?

if the new imac is released before your imac ships then you will get the new one.

i you recieve the old imac, if you return it within 15 days of the purchase date you can exchange it for the new one

If the update is the 7th and not the 31st and you happen to get it this week as long as its not customized at all you'll be fine just leave it in the box and then return it. If its not announced this week my sister and 4god are stuck with the old model as both are customized and apple doesn't take them back.

Well now that's a little less comforting.

yeah apple will not accept a return of it if it is customized even if it was something simple like adding extra ram or anything. Now you do hear people who order from the refurb site getting upgraded machines and they must come from people who returned customized machines so it must somehow be possible.

FYI, refurbs that are above stock specs, as in BTO machines, are usually DOAs or otherwise unsatisfactory units that had to be replaced rather than repaired for the original customer, then they are overhauled and repaired to correct the problem and sent out as a refurb.
