So two weeks ago my PPC G5 imac from 2004 (the white plastic ones) died on me. A bunch of the capacitors blew and the Mac genius (who was super helpful) said it would be around $600 for a new motherboard.
Well, now I am in a pickel because i have no computer at all and none of the 150+ movies I was using on my 2
TVs were synced, so I have paperweights there as well.
So now I am relegated to my computing stuff being done at work and limited web stuff on either my Wii or my PSP at home. My wife and I have committed to waiting for the new imacs and fortunately I am not too worried about price.
As the title aluded to I do have a question. There are tons of rumors about better graphics cards, LED backlit screens, upgraded RAM. I don't care about any of that. For my uses (primarily: internet, itunes, and Handbrake) the current model imac will be a huge improvement over my old G5. Primarily all I want really is a larger hard drive than the currently available 1TB. and no I don't want a bunch of externals, I would prefer a single internal harddrive.
But do you more informed folks have any idea as to what type of hard drive upgrades are reasonably expected. I am guessing that it is physically impossible to go larger than 1.5TB. Am I wrong, is the technology out there to go 2TB?
Ah well, thanks for reading my wall of text!
