my imac won't let me open programs

when i click trash the folder doesn't appear or when i click about this mac it doesn't show but it is there in the background it just won't show on the screen

any help

That used to happen to me too, occasionally. A restart always helped.

After an archive & install it hasn't reappeared so far.

i done that but the trash still doesn't come up but the other stuff do

Well, as a short-term solution, open a new Finder window and enter CMD + Shift + g then ~/.Trash so you can see what's in your trash.

Maybe also try repairing permissions.

i repaired the permissions and it won't open trash or force quit

i fixed it and it was weird

here's what happened

i put a driving theory test running on vmware fusion and quit and shutdown windows and quit vmware then i went on the desktop on the mac and was going to right click and eject then i just pressed it on the keyboard and then about this mac, force quite and trash all opened up and now they can open without any problems
