Ok, let me preface this as madness. Enjoy. 🤯

Battery per Inch of screen

IPX 2716 = 468 mAh/in
IPXS 2658 = 458 mAh/in
IPXSM 3174 = 488 mAh/in
Average for ^^ 471 mAh/in

IP11 3110 = 509 mAh/in
IP11P 3046 = 525 mAh/in
IP11PM 3969 = 610 mAh/in
Average for ^^ 548 mAh/in

The larger form factors have an advantage due to a lot of the internal components staying the same size. As you see the Max models are an outlier.

So:

Average of IPX, IPXS w/o max = 463 mAh/in

Average of IP11, IP11P w/o max = 517 mAh/in

Total regression crap scenario would be going back to old style ratios.
IP12Mini = 2500 mAh
IP12 = 2824 mAh
IP12P = 2824 mAh
IP12PM = 3102 mAh - With advantage 3269 mAh (488 mAh/in)

Potentially staying where we are today.
IP12Mini = 2791 mAh
IP12 = 3153 mAh
IP12P = 3153 mAh
IP12PM = 3463 mAh - With advantage 4087 mAh (610 mAh/in)

Now its anyone's guess, but at least my logic says stay with todays standards and any high quality electronics tolerance is +/- 5%

Here are my final takes/ranges. P.S - Kinda pumped about the Mini if this comes true.

IP12Mini 2652 - 2791 - 2930
IP12 2996 - 3153 - 3310
IP12P 2996 - 3153 - 3310
IP12PM 3883 - 4087 - 4291

Not knowing the energy consumption of any components Apple will use I’m wondering what use your metrics will have?

I’ve heard that the new iPhones will have smaller batteries than the 11 and that the battery life is going to be worse.

Me too. Wishful thinking I guess. I had it set in my mind to get the IP12P, but now have changed my mind and going with the little guy. The only thing fouling up this whole idea is the battery in that little turd. Could be a deal breaker.

The capacity numbers are off. The following numbers were confirmed by 3C and UL Demko.

  • 5.4" – 2,227mAh
  • 6.1" – 2,775mAh
  • 6.7" – 3,687mAh

Wish they could go back to super thin aluminum casings, make it work with their wireless charging, add a few millimeters to the thickness and throw some hefty batteries in it. Shoot, make it the iPhone 13 Pro Sumo for all I care.

That's so disappointing for the 6.1".

No way Apple will release a new iPhone with worse battery life than the previous one.

Smaller battery doesn’t always mean worse battery. Look at the iPhone 8, it has an smaller battery than the 7, the battery life is much better though.

I’m interested in the 5.4” at this point. My SE 2020 has a battery that gets me through a full day despite being only 1,821 mAh. That’s because at that size I don’t try long web surfing on it or reading ebooks. It is just an incredibly convenient size to keep on me for the basics.

Unfortunately I can still manage to run the battery lower than recommended levels for promoting battery durability and longevity, and it shows. I will be down in the red zone a lot of days by the time I charge it. So it has dropped battery health percentages at an alarmingly faster rate compared to my 11 Pro, which is rarely lower than 50% when I charge it.
