Rumor has gone around about a more mac like 15" iPad to be announced as soon as this WWDC. If this is indeed true, here is what I would like to see:

  • Front facing camera
  • Intel processor with research into modifying x86 processors for future use
  • Apple apps more like ipod touch/10" iPad, but OS more like OSX
  • iLife
  • low clock speed, core count
  • simplified finder
  • 128 gb SSD

Below is an image of a concept i made quickly, please post any wishes/thoughts below.

Concept of hardware design and tech spec's are limitless. I see nothing wrong here, the problem is software support. The hardware really doesn't matter until developers create software that "fits" the device.

I'll eat my words if any tablet with the Windows 7 full OS is a huge hit anytime soon. Until developers create software made for a touch interface the tablet will be slow to gain popularity. Best tablet design in the world with the fastest CPU/GPU, huge SSD and memory will still be a paperweight until the software is developed to support it.

For all it's "limitations" people find for the iPad, it will outsell every tablet that shows up until someone takes a clue from Apple and rewrites the OS that is running the hardware. That maybe MS or Google, who knows, I'd love to see another company at least show up the game, but right now it's pretty one sided.

No thanks. To add, I agree with the above. The iPad running iPhone OS allows for apps that are designed for touch based input on day one. From an economic standpoint, it simply makes sense.

I'd accept this as a possibility if the mock up was demoed in an elevator, but in the bathroom?? Now way.

Why can't people just enjoy the things apple actually makes?

The real ipad is exciting enough.

Front facing camera
Oh people give it up, they're not going to add a front facing camera anytime soon.

Intel processor with research into modifying x86 processors for future use
They're not about to drop their home grown chip that does it all for an intel chip set when they haven't even sold one iPad.

Apple apps more like ipod touch/10" iPad, but OS more like OSX
Nope, just look at the other threads, OSX has been designed for keyboard and mouse, which means it does not lend itself well to a multi-touch paradigm. Apple's not about to rework OSX just for the iPad when they already have an OS for it. It also breaks the target market that apple is shooting for. More then the iPhone but less then the laptop
Doubtful, maybe a hamstrung version. iMovie, and iDVD really don't make too much sense because of no optical drive. iPhoto, maybe, but because of the storage constraints its probably not a good fit.
low clock speed, core count
multi-cores make zero sense on a device that cannot even multi-task
simplified finder
The iPad (and iPhone and iPod touch) don't have a file system(at least in the terms of being exposed to the user), so there's no need for a finder to navigate to folders since there's no hierarchical file system to navigate around
128 gb SSD
Nice but doubtful, it also breaks the price points that apple has set. People would be getting a laptop and not an iPad if the machine was priced any higher then it is currently. A MB[P] is much more extensible and when you throw in a SSD into the iPad the price would be encroaching in on that line.

No Windows tablet will compete, unless MS makes a simpler/tighter/mobile version specifically for that tablet. None of their versions of Windows show real thought for tablet interaction. At best they let you use the screen as a digitizer and need a stylus for hitting the tiny screen/window controls. Any full-blow OS that has to load service and drivers and such will be painfully slow in comparison. MS didn't understand this 10 years ago, and they don't seem to understand it today.

That is where people will use the thing.
OP - read the past few months of threads with all the wild speculation. Nothing new in you post. Face it, what you WANT isn't what Apple went out and designed. This is about evolution of the computing platform, just as revolutionary as mainframe to desktop/GUI...from desktop with mouse + keyboard input to portable/touch input. In 2010 the iPad is what can be done in that form factor. In 10 years tablets with have the power of today's MacPros.

Mainframe in the 70's = MacPro
Apple ][ = iPhone/iPad

Amazing that people think an OS X tablet is near even after SJ pretty much dismissed the concept at the iPad intro. Those of you thinking its going to happen need to get off the LSD ASAP.

WHOA!!!!! the iPad is coming out in March and April......WWDC is in June, you REALLY expect that a device that's 2 months old to get an EPIC face lift, when Steve Jobs said he put all his hard work into making this!;)

Sorry about the bathroom setting

I'd accept this as a possibility if the mock up was demoed in an elevator, but in the bathroom?? Now way.

Just happened to have an unused 3d concept for a bathroom, so i found a use.
