Apple what gives? I bought an iPad two months ago. Today, arrive at school, full battery, always taken great care of it, wants to turn it on. Result: NOTHING! Just came back home, connected it to my computer as a last recourse.

I love the iPad. Was doing it 90% of my computing with it. The trust now, kinda gone ...

Has anybody ever experienced this with the iPad?

Thks for your ... support. Sickening!

Your iPad may have a glitchy app that kept it from properly going to standby.

You say it was fully charged. Are you sure?

The reason I ask is that I know if you completely discharge it, it will need need to charge for a few minutes before you can turn it back on.

Plug it in for a good 30 minutes or so and see if it pops back to life.

Otherwise, I know you were backing and syncing everything up and leveraging the cloud, so, data loss is not an issue. Sounds like a simple warranty claim.

@Snouter: yep fully charged. All night. I sent an email just before walking into the school. 100%. I was still logging out of hotmail (slow connection) when I put it to sleep. That can not be the issue, can it? Simply no other thing(s) that I can even start thinking of.

Simple warranty claim? Well, thks for this. I appreciate this bit of good news. Prob is, closest Apple Store is like 3 hours away. It was back to school today, and my first 2 weeks of classes were already on the Pad. I wanted to start using it exclusively - no more laptop as a backup.

Extremely curious to see if this has happened to anybody else though.

It's been connected to my computer for 35 minutes. Can't even see it in iTunes.

Try DFU mode, when I had my iPod Touch 1G this once happened and Apple replaced my iPod for a new one for free, use the warranty.

So did you try a soft reset?

Press and hold the sleep and home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo come on the screen. It may take as long as 30 seconds to get it to go, but this trick has worked for others in the past...

Also, is there a specific reason why are you logging in to Hotmail on the web? Enter your Hotmail account info into the Mail App on the iPad and spare yourself MS's horrible interface! :) It's a much better way to check email on the iPad in general.

@ likemyorbs
thks for the compassion man. Appreciated!

@ gatearray
Bro (or Sis?) you're a genius. I luv U!!!! I'd tried the 'soft reset' for about 15 sec this PM. It took 25 this time. Restore your iPad? Anything, just do it! Serious, you're one beautiful person. But Genius: Hopefully I can reinstall all of my apps for free (restoring at the moment).

Hotmail? Never use it normally. Don't want it to 'infect' my iPad Mail.

Glad you're back up and running!

Yep, I'm your bro. :)))

Anyway, you can restore all your Apps to the iPad, just redownload ones you have already purchased directly to it. You'll tap "BUY" and before it starts downloading it will bring up a message telling you that you already purchased the item, and would you like to download it again for free? Just say "yes"! :)

As another poster mentioned earlier, weird s*** can sometimes happen with apps or the web with our iDevices. It's happened to my iPhones in the past, I've seen it on iPads, too. Oddly, these kinds of glitchy things seem to happen when the device is pretty "fresh" if they're gonna happen at all, but two months is still relatively new so we'll let it slide.

Perhaps you didn't actually power it off all this time and only put it to sleep? Just like your computer, it needs to be re-started every now and again to clear out the "ghosts" from the machine, let alone fragmented memory and the various caches, etc. :)

Enjoy!

Thks so much everybody for your help. Love Apple, and their owners are simply the best.

Restoring the Pad after resuscitating (thks to a Genius!) it will restore all of your settings (including Mail) AND reinstall your apps with no prompting. Brilliant.

One last thing maybe (sorry): Is there a prob if we always recharge the pad even though it rarely goes to lower than 60%?

Thks a ton people!

This has happened quite a few times my iPhone(s).
I put it down to a software bug either in a third party app or in the OS.

Bloody annoying when it happens.

Sorry about your iPad, but your thread title is rather misleading. My iPad died - here's how to put it back up and running sounds like you're offering the solution to getting a dead iPad up and running, rather than asking for advice.

Well if you read the entire thread, it shows that his iPad did Die, and then he was able to bring his ipad back to life due to the help of fellow members. So in essence the following was posted:

The Problem
A possible Solution
The results of the possible solution which were successful

So there is nothing really misleading about it.

@misterbig and @Mr. Bell

Sorry misterbig. I certainly didn't want to confuse anybody. But I changed the title AFTER a solution was found so that other iPad users can find answer quickly should the same unfortunate and frustrating situation happened to them. Helpless feeling, especially at work.

Thanks for clarifying Mr. Bell. Greatly appreciated!

Btw, I do not take credit in any way, shape, or form for solving this. I'm not that smart. It's all Gatearray's doing.

To give credit where it is due, ouimetnick had also suggested the reset before Gatearray but I guess you missed it or perhaps just needed the additional information that it might take 30 seconds which Gatearray provided.

Glad to hear you got it sorted though.
