My 2nd Gen iPad Pro 10.5 is completely dead. I charged it last night and this morning I turned it on it ran for about 10 minutes. Then I noticed through the case it was very hot on the upper right side. I shut it off. I took the case off and it was almost to hot to touch. I let it cool off for 30 mins. Turned it on and the screen was greenish blue. Then went blank. And now nothing. Plugged it in nothing. Hooked it to my laptop nothing. It is dead dead. I am 😡. Any clue what failed? Figures it happened the morning they release the new ones. It’s out of warranty so not worth fixing. I have stole my sons 6th Gen Ipad for now. What a let down.

Planned obsolescence. Leave it in airplane mode next time there's an impending product announcement.

Watching I fix tear down I am guessing the right battery failed or something. I just smelled it yeah I know weird. But there is a in the speaker ports a sulfuric type smell.

sounds like the CPU delaminated or separated from the heatspreader. It thermaly shut down or just roasted itself to death. It’s a common defect. Just imagine heat up and cool down cycles cause internal flexing not to mention and physical twisting or bending over two years.
Probably blew out a capacitor. Might be fixable by a professional.

I can not justify spending another 1200 bucks right now I am wondering what you guys think of the iPad Air 3rd gen? I would get the Cellular 256 gig version. Verizon is knocking 100 bucks off it. I know it’s a step down from my pro but it’s bound to be better than the 32 gig 6th Gen.
