Yeah, my work phone is the iPhone 8 Plus. And truthfully, as much as I like face ID/the Max, the iPhone 8 is by far the best phone I’ve owned, and the reason why, is I’ve had *zero* hardware issues with this phone. Solid construction/touch ID has been perfect all the way around, the display has no disparities, etc.

Looks like 2001 compared to what Samsung is putting out..

I love 2001 then! The iPhone 8 Plus is a beast plain and simple. It is on the heels of a A12 at like 8% slower. I can encode in 30 seconds with hardware, vs waiting 3+ minutes with a snapdragon 855 using software. Sure they both have they’re benefits. But I simply like the iPhone 8+, and I could’ve bought any fancy device I wanted.

I was an annual upgrader since the 3GS and in 2017 I chose the 8 Plus over the X because I didn't like the narrow width of the X at all. Last year, I decided to keep the 8 Plus instead of the XS Max and that was not an easy decision. The 8 Plus is a heck of a phone. I do believe if the camera upgrades are solid, I will move on the new 6.5" version but if I do decide to keep the 8 Plus another year, it wouldn't be the worst decision I have ever made.

I seriously was thinking about downgrading to the 8 Plus from my iPhone X because of the issues I have been having. I realize that the XS is better, and I am going to wait out to see how the 11 is. If these are lackluster, back to the 8+ I go. It was seriously the best phone I have ever owned, and I should have never left it. Battery life was amazing, and everything about that phone was just plain rock solid. It just worked! There has been many times where my iPhone X has left me stranded. Literally.

I was trying to load my bus/train pass on the iPhone X, and the whole entire phone froze up. Thankfully, everything came back after a hard reboot, but holding side buttons plus power button did nothing, up button, then down button then power button didn't do anything, etc. I literally had to just wait it out, and the phone eventually "caught up" It was seriously a weird situation. I gotten it to work before the train guys came around to check for passes, otherwise I would have gotten a $50-$500 ticket (yeah it’s a range, gotta love Arizona. Wouldn’t know which one you’re going to get until the court decides).

Another time, I was driving, navigating to a brand new client, and I got a temperature warning, the phone shut down, I am somewhere where I have never been before, so I don't know the area, no way to contact the client to let them know "I'm Lost". Also, my car has AC (though it is Arizona), so there was no reason to have a temperature warning. I went to the Apple Store, and go figure, they found nothing wrong with the phone. This never happened again. Of course, it only has to happen once to screw up your day. I have learned to start carrying my iPad in the car, for backup navigation however.

Yet another time, Face ID would just refuse to authenticate my Apple Pay. Like, it didn't even give me the option to, it just froze up on the "Face ID" thing, so no option to type in the passcode either. I had to reboot the phone, but I just paid for my stuff with a regular card at this point.

This stuff never happened on my 8+. I miss my 8+. I may go back to it, if the 11 looks lackluster. We will see on Sept 10.

Don't tell me, oh I should "buy a regular bus pass" or "use a paper map" because I never had to do any of these with the 8 Plus, 7 Plus, or 6s Plus. I shouldn't have to with my X either.

There are a lot of users just like your self speaking such positive things about the iPhone 8, and this was one of the selling points of the 8 Plus for me. Everyone talks about how well polished and solid these devices are. I am very happy with mine. Practically iPhone XR performance, with a home button. So I went all in long term with a 256GB model.

A family member has the iPhone 8, and it is amazing. I’m using a Xʀ, but my only requirement is great battery life. I don’t even use the battery life, which might sound weird, but I just like to have it for the select few occasions in which I may need it.
I used the 7+ and if it weren’t broken (hardware issue), I probably would be using it. What a great device. Likewise with the 8+, phone which I’m assuming has around the same battery life as the 7+, and only marginally worse than the Xʀ (if it indeed is like the 7+).
Who cares about bezels and the home button? Touch ID is great, and extremely fast, and the haptic home button is amazing as well.

Seriously lol. I’ve neglected myself with phone upgrades. I’m playing catch up I suppose.
Let’s face it, in another couple of weeks you’ll have a XR, and then probably an 11 a week or two after that, and each one will be the best iPhone Apple ever made.

I don’t get the nostalgia for the 8 at all, it was a mediocre release. If you’ve absolutely got to have bezels and Touch ID it’s your last best option, but if you really feel like you’ve got to have those things you’re already going wrong somewhere.

I actually downgraded from a XR to an 8+ because of Touch ID and it’s build. I too love that phone.

I don't consider that a downgrade. 8 Plus has a 1080p display. 8 Plus has a dual camera with optical zoom and studio portrait mode. 8 Plus has 3D Touch. I picked the 8 Plus over the Xr last year. Xr never really appealed to me. I would rather get the X (Apple doesn't sell it anymore and on Amazon the 256 GB is way to expensive considering it's age) and the Xs Max was also too expensive. I mean, i could buy one, sure, but it can't justify the price anymore.

The insanity on these forums when the 8 Plus Matte black and jet black came out was amazing and never duplicated
Matte and jet was the iPhone 7. 8 plus returned to space grey

What’s with the constant need to criticise the opinions and preferences of others?

I could easily exchange for a iPhone XS, or iPhone 11. But, I am satisfied with the iPhone 8 Plus.

While I liked the 6S+ the internals were a bit dated, I liked my 7 too but I felt cramped using it for some reason.

The 8+ has modern hardware that’s just about as fast as any other newer iPhone available. And it has the larger display like the 6S+.

It is a awesome phone plain and simple. And of all iPhones available to buy, I wanted an iPhone 8.

The 8 wasn’t just mediocre, it was a beast for its time, doubling the multithreaded power of a iPhone 7. And still is nearly as powerful or more powerful as any new phone out now.

Look at the gap from iPhone 7 to iPhone 8 in power. It’s huge! Then go look at the gap between a iPhone 8 and iPhone XS.

Sorry, just saw this message. You know, I obviously had you wrong and I apologise from the bottom of my heart, I think it’s fantastic that you’re satisfied with the 8 plus, you’re sticking with it now, and definitely won’t be upgrading to the 11 or, heaven forbid, the 11 Pro Max. Well done you!

Love my 8 Plus too. I typically upgrade every other year (but occasionally sooner), and I'm now pretty close to the two year mark with my 8 Plus... I feel zero need to upgrade, and will be going at least another year. However, honestly, if the new iPhones had TouchID, I'd probably give in to the "I want something new and shiny" temptation. FaceID works great on my iPad Pro, but for how I often have to unlock my iPhone (down by my side, discretely), TouchID is far superior.

Hoping the 2020 iPhones have the rumored under-display fingerprint scanner, though if not I think I can easily squeeze yet another year out of the 8 Plus (which would be a whopping 4 years).

He ordered an 11 Pro Max now too.

I’ve currently got an iPhone 8, got it launch day two years ago, over the X. I’ve preordered an 11 Pro, just because I usually upgrade every two years and I’m after something new. Looking forward to the new form factor and FaceID (coming from someone who absolutely loves TouchID!). My 8 has served me well, and is in pristine condition, but it’s time for something new.

Hattrick. Same here. 8+ has been tremendous. I always update every 2 years. I feel 2 years is enough to really feel like I've got the best out of a smartphone (never understood the necessity to upgrade every 12 months, but fair dos to those that do). Bought a 11 Pro Max 256Gb and can't wait.

Well I was actually upgrading every few days.

I bought a new 6S Plus, then the next day I bought a new iPhone 7 128GB, then about 4 days later I bought a iPhone 8 Plus 256GB. Then I bought the Pro Max 256 in green.
