I got a case charger/charger on eBay (please don't rag on my for doing this). the battery works fine charging my and no 'not supported device' error message.
However, when charging, the phone 'chirps' every 30 seconds to a minute. It's very annoying.

Any ideas why and what to do about it?

I would imagine that the charger isn't delivering the correct power for the phone (it may just be slightly different than an OEM charger). The phone will think it is being disconnected and reconnected every so often and this will be what is producing the chirp.

Is it likely to do any harm to the phone?

It won't do either your phone, or it's battery any good at all. I would stop using it straight away. I know that genuine accessories are more expensive, but at the end of the day, you do get what you pay for.
