My friends jailbroken Iphone broke ='(. He hacked his Iphone 3G 2.2 with quickpwn and on cydia he installed sbsettings and because of his annoying cousin decided to be a genius and hide every single app except for phone. BTW sbsettings doesnt use an icon its a drop down menu with toggles and other tools. After he turned his phone off he had the same problem as most people he couldnt boot his Iphone. So he has tried DFU mode restoring aka force restoring aka recovery mode restoring. What usually happens is it gets to a point during restore where it just stops and says either error 2005 or error 9. I was reading in the forums and found something interesting that applys to my friend. I read that if you are using a new macbook something might not work (it was unclear). He happens to have a new macbook so wutsup?

That's partially true, the new macbooks have something added in to prevent Jailbreaking. Sigh, the power of reading... and following by Apple's rules... :p
