ok, so I LOVE my iphone. love it!. I baby it. it has been in an invisible shield since day 1. it is NEVER in my pocket with anything else. It is docked every night, and cleaned off.

Yesterday night. randomly, the screen just started to behave badly. I did a ful itunes restore, and haev powered down and all the way up again. I havbe drained the battery and fuly charged again. nothing changes it.

The symptoms: when in phone mode, the bottom 3 buttons, have no response. when in typing mode, IE: safari, the bottom row of letters does not work.

It is very strange, the entire phone works fine otherwise, but that area of the screen seems to be dead.

OTHER THAN taking it to the apple store; I do not want to wait for 3 days without a phone; what can I do? I know it is not an abuse issue. so I am sure apple with replace it. I was #14 in line at the Sherman Oaks Apple store on opening day, so it has been past the 2 weeks time period. will they replace it in the store? or do I HAVE to go through all the hoopla.
Thanks everyone.

Yeah, they'll replace it. And they will give you a replacement phone to use while it's being repaired I think.
That kind of sucks though.

you will prolly have to go though the hoopla. Just get a loaner and tell them you want the loaner fee waived.
:apple:

This appears to be happening quite a bit, unfortunately... along with bad AC adapters, the refusal-to-fully-charge issues, the 5 versus 7 screens...

At any rate, they will indeed fix it. And you'll get a loaner, so you won't be without a phone during this time. It just won't be your particular phone, though a sync-up to your iTunes should turn it into an awfully good impostor.

I dont understand what the point of the loaner is. if they are going to give me a phone, just give me one. Why the loaner? is there a good reason?

I remembered reading your post before. Mine just started doing that this weekend. It doesn't affect the bottom row of buttons, but it is close to that area. When I'm drafting an email and I hit cancel...the "Don't Save" button doesn't work. Same for any button in that position, including "Forward" and "Send to Web Gallery". I've never hacked it, I haven't dropped it. That area just stopped working.

I just wanted to see if you could give an update to what happened with yours. Did you get yours fixed? Did they swap you out for a new one? They better not charge me for a loaner if I have to send mine off, since it's definitely not something I did.
