iPod My Ipod Copies Songs Really Slow Now On Mac!!!

Before my Ipod use to copy at lightening speeds. . . now after a loath of errors and constant restoring, it takes forever to copy one song, and almost impossible to copy more then 10. . . without it freezing, or taking forever.

I restored my iPod Classic, and have 4,500 songs to put on it. . . and I can't do that with a slow iPod.

Mind you, it works better in my slower PC Dell Laptop, then in my mac, as of recent.

PS: This all started to happened once I updated itunes to 7.7, and my "ipod software" to 1.1.2.

So now what I try to do is copy the songs to iTunes from my external, and then copy them to my iPod. . . its working to a certain extent but it is very slow. . . I tried copying 200 at once and it says copied 200 of 200, but its still at copying and I see no obvious syncing on the actual iPod.
