the track wheel is a royal pain is the ass, and its started crashing, not even getting past the start up screen, but i guess it has lasted a good 4 years or so

so anyway, ive looked at the ipod classics, and am considering buying one, although they do not come in white anymore(!?)

but will there be a new ipod coming along soon? should i wait?

If you can update to the current version of iTunes, I'd go with the 80 GB classic. It has pretty good battery life, and 80 GB can store a lot of music even if you use 256 kbps VBR AAC encoding. :)

but will there be a new one soon?

(my ibook is 40gb so i will never be able to fill it)

If you can afford the higher price a iPod touch would be a nice upgrade and it doesn't have scroll wheel to break. Or if you just need less than 16GB, a Nano is an option.

An update is expected come september, but no one can say for sure. If you need one now go for it, if you can wait then wait. However the updates will likely just be capacity and pricing adjustments.
