but if I use the earbuds on my MBP, they're fine. Should I just reset to factory settings and just re-sync my Nano?

static coming from a digital player is clipping. Where the sound wave hits the rails and flattens. It could also be analog with an amp that can't pump out that much volume. Does it go away when the volume is turned down?

What generation of nano is this? The earlier the model the worse the sound quality. Not sure what the 6th gen is like but every generation has gotten better about noise.

Also what head phones you using?

I think I got it 2 years ago. (2008 Christmas.) I didn't do anything with it until I had a Itunes card... I am kind of thinking that my own health "MIGHT" (occasional fluid in the ears. Is that a plausable idea?)

I think it's will be useless to reset your iPod, make sure your earphone is plunged good.
