Hello, everyone, I have a MSI GT83 6RE laptop and an IMAC 2011 A1312. I connected the two devices with Thunderbolt cable. Now I can see that IMAC has been connected in GT83, but I can't start the target display mode on IMAC. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

Are you pressing command + F2 on the keyboard to enable target display mode?

The PC can output video through the thunderbolt port, and the mac can also. But what is the input of IMAC to determine whether the output is PC or mac? In other words, if we understand the judgment conditions of imac, can we simulate the MAC output from the PC and turn imac into a display?

It's easier to do it the hard way: Convert the iMac to a stand-alone monitor. The computer part of it is obsolete and can be disposed.

A properly configured (hardware-wise) hackintosh can use target display mode on a capable iMac…so it's not that it has to be a real Mac.

Definitely has to be running macOS, though.

As you said, it is necessary to use the MAC operating system, so I am very confused. What is the difference between the video output signal of the MAC and that of Windows?

With that model iMac it's not strictly a video signal. There's other info being passed back and forth.

It doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility that someone could write software for Windows that would make it work but either it isn't possible or no one has bothered to do it.
