My Dell fried and died, a new motherboard isn't an economical repair option.

I dont do 'business' on my laptop, no photo editing no Excell. I love my movies and music and net browsing, thats it really, my CV is needed but I use Open Office not Microsoft Word, but I think there is an app for word doc's?

As the iPad has USB connectivity I guess I can connect a seperate hard drive and CD reader/writer if needed. I like to download files with Bit Torrent and burn movies to disk or transfer to mp4 for my itunes library.

Can anyone envisage any problems I might face if I was to make the jump from lappy to iPad?...anything I might have been able to do and will not if I make the jump?

Would be looking at a Wi-Fi + 3G.

Thanks for any comments....

Sorry, you'll need a laptop regardless. Unless you jailbreak the iPad, there's no official USB drive support and there's no bittorrent support either. You can't download any files you want either since you need an application to read them, and not all applications are available. You won't be able to burn images either. You can't do all the things you do on the laptop on the iPad, it's a companion device, not a laptop replacement.

Admit it. You poured your tea on the keyboard so you would have an excuse to buy an iPad. :D

Yea, the stupid 86xx failures? Why economical repair option? You should be getting it replaced for free. How many times have you replaced it already?
