Powerbook G4, Mac Mini intel, 13" Macbook Pro, iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPod (30 gig black one), iPod Nano (the old school silver one), Time Machine, and finally Apple TV....

It's safe to say I have my fair share of Apple products... but man oh man does the Apple TV frustrate me. I am one of those guys that has taken many long hours to rip and encode all my dvd collection to mp4 format so I can have my media with me where ever I go. The convenience of putting all my physical media away in storage has been wonderful....

But good grief my Apple TV just can't seem to work correctly. I've read the forums all over the web and I seem to be suffering from the "reboot completely randomly" syndrome. This started for me for no real reason about a month ago. It wasn't after an update or anything... just out of the blue. Very very frustrating. Now I'm hoping a software update will fix this problem and it's not a hardware issue. It makes me ill thinking about spending $300 on something only to have it stop working a year later.

Anyway... I just needed to rant. I'm loyal user to Apple products but this "hobby" needs to be worked on. Apple TV could do the living room what the iPod did to music or the iPhone did for phones... seriously Apple... get on this project!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for listening guys.

I don't know about others but ever since going to 10.6/iTunes 9 on my streaming machine I have had 0 issues, rock solid no disconnects at all. Also a lot of the issues with the ATV imo are network related specially if you are using wireless, so I would start there.

Plus 1. I agree 100%. I have 0 issues as well. Itunes 9 rocks and 10.6 rocks. I stream everything to two apple tvs and playback is flawless. A side note the two apple tv's are located a 175 feet from each other. I have an airport extreme base station and an airport express setup as a network extender.

I wonder if this is not the case as well. I have two atv's both eSata modded ( one 750 GB and the other 1 TB). Now this means that *everything* is synced so I have little to offer in terms of streaming performance. But, I was thinking "why don't the iPod Touch and iPhone offer streaming video and wireless syncing like the atv ?". Is it possible that it is being tested out on the atv since it's "just a hobby" ? I really have no idea.

I do wonder if users find as many issues with synced content as they do with streamed content. The latter does introduce complexities due to network issues which the former of course doesn't.

Just my .02

Don't want to tempt fate here, but I lost connection to iTunes last week, having been stable for months before upgrading to iTunes 9 and SL.

Seems OK again now, but I also think this is the most frustrating product Apple do. So close to being a brilliant piece of kit, but they need to sort out its stability as its prone to throwing a wobbly for no reason at all, usually just when you think its been working fine for a while....
