I’ve had my M1 iMac 8core cpu & gpu 8GB for a little over a week now. Sold my 8 core cpu 7 core gpu MacBook Air.
This definitely performs better then the MacBook Air in all the tasks I use it for. I have a 27” LG 4K as a second monitor.
Same monitor I was using with the Air. The additional gpu core does make a difference using it to extend the desktop.
I wanted the 16GB model but I wasn’t waiting another month. I am more pleased with the performance of this machine over the Air.
Only thing that concerns me is it’s shelf life. I still use my late 2013 I7 16GB 21.5” iMac for certain things. It still has plenty of life left in it. Not sure with the ARM chip advancement will it be able to sustain 8 years of life. We shall see

The computer's lifespan is often a factor of the users desire to continue using it. So for the same reason you dumped your old computer, you will dump your new one.

Good thing appliances aren't like family... or we'd put them all in retirement homes when we no longer wanted to deal with them... oh wait...

Periodically the Apple stores get the blue or silver 8/8/16GB/1TB in stock. The last couple of weeks I observed like a dozen or so arrive at stores, but they sell quickly therefore they can be difficult to acquire unless you are watching store stock online. You need to select $1699 model and add those two options for the $2099 config then check pickup availability at stores close to you. :)

I had been checking. I never saw a 16GB model in any color. Still a month out as of today. ??‍♂️

Just go to this link for blue or silver for 8GB/512TB config and then select 16GB /1TB config (select those options) and look at the pickup locations. You closest store showed stock for blue tomorrow, and silver in a store 32 miles away.
