hello folks.....is the mac mini a load of rubbish or is it just my machine?

since i bought it on April 1 last year, it has had three new logic boards and two modems...the last logic board was replaced on wednesday....this morning (sunday) it wouldn't even start, so phoning the shop again tomorrow....anyone else had these problems? is it worth accepting another one from apple or should i upgrade?

rubbish mac mini

ha....just been reading that thread and i have felt like chucking it from a moving car.....spoke to apple on the day i got the logic board replaced last week, saying i had no confidence that it would remain trouble free, and they said that they would give me a new one if it went wrong again within 90 days....it only took five.....

any ideas why it keeps going wrong? should i accept a new one?

the downside is not having the machine because it's always in the shop....i don't want another if it's as crap as the one i've got

i'd at least give another one a new shot. You probably got a dud from the factory that has something else going on inside besides the logic board thus causing that failure.

I dont know how you have been this patient. I think you should have demanded a replacement machine after the second or third time the LB died.

Seems you got the lemon and no ammount of fixing will change that.

My first Mac mini was a lemon.

My replacement is stunning, it never crashes and the performance from something so tiny blows me away every time.

So, in summary, yes your Mac mini may well be rubbish, but it's also almost certainly a dudd and needs replacing. My Mac mini Core Duo most certainly isn't rubbish ;)

Canader eh
I sold my dual 2.5ghz G5 amnd bought a Mini 1.66ghz w/1gb RAM to tide me over until the new 'MacPros'. I must say, I had never seen a Mini in person before, never used one but I decided to buy it. Three days in, this thing is sweet!!:D :D Soooo quiet, it's literally too quiet, I was use to my 9 fans wailing away making noise and the Mini is barely audible in a 'normal' setting. It's rock solid, although, I wish I coughed up for 2gb RAM, but I didn't want to pay Apple Canada's price and I didn't want to risk damaging it, so I ordered it with 1gb:confused: .

Front Row is really cool too! I have a 23" screen so kickin back and watching rv shows, movies, music is awesome! It's so freakin' small, I can palm it in one hand:D

So my point is, it/they are sweet and you must have got a lemon.

they've now agreed to give me a new one. trouble is apple say they are not responsible for the data on the old one. so i have to pay £120 to a computer shop to have the data recovered and put on the new machine. i don't think that's fair. anyone had similar problems?

wow that's expensive! my apple store does it and it only charges like $10 to transfer data...

I think you've just got a lemon, as others have said. I've never had any issues with my Core Solo Mini, nor have I had any problems with the G4 Mini I got for my girlfriend. They're well-built machines in general, you've just got a lemon. I say send it back until they give you one that won't mess up!
