Running 10.5.8

My mac pro has 4 Partitions 2 for Data, 2 Operating OSX in that one is osx 10.5.8, and the other one is OSX Lion 10.7

Mainly i work with OSX 10.5.8 because all my Applications are installed in this including my parallel desktops with windows and much more, so i can not think of formatting it.

Mac mac Pro osx 10.5.8 was working just fine until i accidentally deleted the HOSTS file in the folder \private\etc, from this time onwards my osx 10.5.8 is stays on gray screen with the circling logo. how can i put back my Hosts file or how can i fix this problem.

No problem for me booting with the other partition with osx LION but i want my osx 10.5.8 till my Lion becomes standard with all my current Applications

Please help me to fix this problem
Thank You

Hello,

Boot into OS X Lion, and copy this file into your 10.5.8's /private/etc/.

Don't forget to remove the .txt in th filename.

It's a basic hosts file that should do the trick.

First of all Thank You Loa, trying to help me out.
Actually i tried that option but the problem is when the system is not active, i think you cannot go in to that folder or may me i don't know to go in to that folder, can you please tell me how to go in to that folder using go to folder command option /private/etc when the system is not active.

when the system is not active all these folders and files are hidden i think.

Please find a way out

thank you

Why not boot into 10.7 and move the file from there? Go>Go to Folder>
/etc

Put Loa's text file in it.
Reboot to 10.5.8.
You can do this from shell too or target disk mode or USB stick...
