today when i come back from work i start my imac as normal. I thought i didnt start my imac at first and i restart it again. my mac starts up and load, but when the apple icon appear theres a bar under it and then suddenly shut off by itself. i tried to unplug the power cord and start it gets the same thing. I tried to boot in safe mode by holding the shift button but fail. my last chance is to repair the disk by booting in the installation cd that comes with my imac. damn!!!!! it couldn't repair!!!!! does anyone out there that can help me please~~~ i just want the information that i saved. I have windows 7 installed on the bootcamp and couldn't find my downloads folder in it.

my last resort is to restore into factory setting because i just dont want to lose all my files.... can anyone give me any suggestions that what i can do to back up my files before restore back to factory setting??? thank you so much for your help!!!!!

Always create a separate partition or drive for your data files, so that when the OS gives you trouble, you will at least have the chance of saving and keeping your precious data :)

And always make sure you have an external Harddrive with backup of all your data.

Situations like this is what makes us remember to do backup another time, so let this be a lesson to you ;)

You may be able to see the files if you remove the harddrive and connect it to another computer and then get your data from there.
There is a chance that the entire drive is dead, but it couls also be other stuff like a damaged OS partition........

im thinking about installing the osx into an external hard disk by using the image in disk utilities and boot up from there. just wondering if anyone tried that before and after i installed the osx in my external disk. am i able to get any access to the hard disk of my mac to back up my files??? thanks!!
