My 1st Gen 1.83Ghz Core Duo doesnt at startup. I'm just posting if anyone knows of any troubleshooting tips to help me with this.
The story goes a little like this.... I ran disk util to check the disk, and it said it needed to be repaired, so i booted to CD, and ran a repair. It said no repairs were necessary. I thought that was odd, so i just rebooted back into OSX (on the hard drive) but i got the flashing folder icon. So i booted back into the OSX install disk to check again with disk util, but the drive wasnt mounted in disk utility. Im an old PC boy, and I used to have this computer the cable was loose in so my first thought was that maybe the HDD had become dislodged or something, so i took the battery and the metal thingy off, and pulled the HDD back, and the tried to push it back in. But when i pushed it back in it seemed to be pushing against something squishy, rather than a firm sort of click i was expecting. But not having changed the HDD before, i didnt think it was a problem. So i tried to screw the metal L shaped thing back on but it wouldnt fit, so i took the HDD back out and shone a mini light down the HDD slot. Right at the bottom was some twisted black thing. Feeling desperate I stuck a pair of tweesers down and pulled the thing out. It was a rubber strip, with a guide down it. It looks like it was what held the HDD in allignment. So with that out of the way i put the HDD in and it clipped into place. I felt like I was getting somewhere. So i re-assmebled all the bits and bobs, put the battery in, plugged in the charger and pressed the powerbutton. The CD tray did its little whir, and the screen flashed gray, but then stayed dark, and didnt gong. At first i thought it might just be a one off, so I hold down the power button to turn it off, then turn it back on again. Same again. So this time I leave it be for about 15 minutes, but it just stays on the black screen. The white light was on permanatly. So now i cant do anything at all with my MB!
Sorry its a bit of a long story, but I was just hoping someone with a little expertise might be able to help me, before i go to the closest thing to an apple store within 200miles.. an Apple Premium Reseller.
