After inserting a DVD, it usually spins, giving out unusually loud, odd noise, then starts playing it for some seconds (40 s)... you can hear the spinning frequency coming down to zero and then it all freezes. Most of the time, the drive doesn't register the DVD at all. I really don't know what's wrong - any ideas?

I had a similar problem with a Macbook Pro. No solution other than having the drive replaced (which I am currently having done).

having the problem myself, find out that sending the mac to sleep so the temperature goes bellow 40degrees it starts working as expected, looks like another heat issue with the mackbooks and macbook pros

This happened to my new MBP after about 2 weeks of use, I just sent it back to Amazon and they refunded me.
