Okay I have had my MacBook about 6 weeks now and primarily about 3 weeks ago I noticed the power brick was crackling when my MacBook was booted up and charging at the same time. I took the charger back to the store who said all the power supplies are like that and the noise depends on usage, and to demonstrate they let me 'listen' to another one in the shop and sure enough it crackled like mine so I just left with my original power brick. Now however I have noticed that my actual MacBook has started humming with or without the power brick attached and/or charging.

The noise is getting really annoying and am wondering if anybody else has experience of their actual MacBook humming? :(

I've heard the same thing about one of the newer dell notebooks it like... "chirps" the reviewer even recorded it.

Well I have discovered what the problem is however I have no idea as to why? It seems if I turn up the screen brightness settings the noise disappears yet if I dim it the hum returns which is kind of annoying as I would prefer the screen dimmer to save power. Anyway as a workaround I set the MacBooks brightness setting to full and downloaded and installed Splasms 'Brightness Control' software to control the brightness.

Does anyone else have a similar issue with their MacBooks when they dim the brightness, and do you think I should get it replaced?

When does humming mean the same thing as smelling?

Did you try a search? Also check the apple discussion board.

It sounds like a screen inverter problem.
