My Macbook has developed a large crack/hole on the bottom right part of the handrest. My sister's has the same but even larger. This sucks, thank god for applecare though.

Just under a year

seriously get a hard case to cover you macbook it is defiantly worth the $60. I have it it has more than proved its value. And what could you be doing to put a hole in your macbook. did you use a drill.

Interesting. Can you post a couple of photos? They might help in determining if this is related to a manufacturing flaw or not. If the holes are similar in both location and structure you may have found a very rare flaw. I've never heard of this before in any of the forums. A check of the Apple discussion boards also doesn't turn up any results.

Definitely strange.

Yeah, I haven't heard of this either. Mind you, most modern Macs aren't made with faeces, human or otherwise. I think Apple found it to be structurally less sound, as well as slightly pungent. Of course, a crap MacBook could explain the yellow screen tinges...

For you AND your sister to have a problem that I personally have never seen or heard of before is a little strange. I'd be interested to see some pictures.

Are the MacBooks Core Duo or Core 2 Duo? The original Core Duo MacBooks had a design flaw with hairline cracks around the palmrest and towards the speaker area.

Cracked and hole'd like that?

If so my white CD Macbook suffered exactly the same thing, as have many others. The genius at my local Apple store immediately identified it as a design fault caused by the plastic top case not having anything under it at that point to support the weight of the lid when it closes. Check where the two small plastic supports touch when you close the case, if this is the same problem I'd put money on those supports lining up with the crack. Apple replaced my top case under warranty but they didn't say what would stop this happening again so I've got no idea if they've done anything to actually resolve the issue of if it's a sticking plaster on a sucking chest wound solution.

Thats exactly what it is, the hole in my sister's is even bigger though, like a legit hole that stuff could get into and i always tell her to bring it in and she doesn't

The cracked palmrest/topcase has been discussed quite a bit in the Apple MacBook forum. I have a friend who BABIES his BlackBook and the palmrest cracked. Apple has been replacing the cracked areas without much/any hassle though.

First time I've heard of this problem as well.
Of course now you know the secret, get two more and "use them" the same way, and then you get a free 17" MBP. YEAH:)

Hrm... a friend of mine has one of the cheapest MacBooks. I'm not sure what model, but his has this tiny holy on the right palmrest are. It's right on the on the very tip of the corner however. He said it cracked.

I just sent an email to his steveness, we'll see how ti goes. I made sure to say how quality I thought the iPhone was...... ;)
