Hi,

Some of you might have read my post bout getting a Macbook from the US, and know that I actually ended buying one here in the Uk from the Apple refurb store (a Black Core Duo 2.0/512/Superdrive/60GB)

My Black Macbook honestly looks like its brand new. Not a single mark or dent on it that would suggest this is a unit that was sent back and fixed or whatever.

When using Coconut idenity, it says that it was manufactured at the back end of October (can't remember the dates exactly not got it with me at the moment). I've just been looking at a timeline of the iBook/Macbook (http://www.designedinca.com/macs/macbook/timeline/) and it says the Core2Duo model went on say November 8th.

So looking at these times, could it be that actually my system is brand new and it was just one of the CD models that never sold before the C2D models went on sale?

Remember, the machine that went on sale in the beginning of November had to be manufactured and shipped to store before that date. I think you've probably got on of the earlier C2D MacBooks out there. I doubt that you got a CD. Open up the System Profiler, what does it say about your Processor? Also check to see if your Superdrive writes at 4x or 6x as that is another difference between those machines.

Similar to you - I bought a black macbook 2ghz core duo from refurb store in Ireland begining of the week - shipped from UK and was here yesterday.

It's looks to me as you say as simply 'old stock' because this was absolutley pristine and everything was packaged and covered.

It's easy to tell with a black book if its used because the machine's case shows up every finger print or touch, yet this was flawless.

The person I got it for was delighted and saved themselves €500 compared to a coreduo 2 blackbook.

Could very well be. It is absolutely impossible for Apple to sell every single Core Duo model exactly at the time the Core2 Duo is introduced, and they really don't want to sell two different models at two prices. Looks like a good strategy: Remove all CoreDuos from the shops, and then a bit later sell them off through the refurbished store. So yes, you could have a brand new MacBook that has been sitting in its box for a few months.

Most likely not BUDDY.

They fix it and touch it up when they refurbish it so it probably just looks new.

Good deal though, too bad it's just a White MacBook 2GHz Core Duo with 20Gigs more hard drive thats costs 100 more. You could have gotten the whitebook and upgraded HD to 80GB and 1GB ram for the same price.

How could I have gotten a white for the same price? The cheapest C2D's are 750 quid.

The only thing that this has different to a retail version is that the box is just a plain white box (same as retail just with no images on it). The insides are all identical to retail though. I think i'll believe its brand new :) Makes me happier :D
